So, Hawaii to Seattle, again? Illinois to Waco? Utah to Provo. Colorado State to Palo Alto? Geography rules. I don't have the data to back this up, but I actually feel the the committee has been doing better and better about getting closer to 'true' seeding. For example, they wouldn't send #17 to #1 in the opening rounds. They've also been better about almost never sending multiple bottom 16 teams to the same sub-regional. I believe this is true - given that we probably don't really know who the committee values at #17, 18, etc... They also try and avoid teams in the 1st two rounds playing teams played in the nonconference when possible/convenient. Utah to BYU or BYU to Utah may not be avoidable. There should be plenty of options for Hawaii outside of Washington (assuming Hawaii doesn't host) - as I believe they have sent them 'anywhere' (other than pacific coast) the last several years. When I get some time - I plan on looking at potential drive-in scenarios. Should see some differences this year with 3 or more Texas hosts, potentially two teams from the Bay Area, Maybe both Louisville & Kentucky eating up a lot drive-ins - and then look were some of the 1 bid auto teams are likely to be coming from.

This reminds me. Do we know why the selection committee only seeds the top 16 teams and not the entire field like in basketball? Is it so they can do these kind of geographic considerations (e.g. sending Utah to Provo)? I honestly don't know and couldn't really find anything on the subject from my initial Google search.

Lexi Sun and Nebraska to Gregory Gym for all the memes. Didn't even think of that with that possible #2-#7 pairing. However I think that would be a subplot to the old Big 12 rivalry between the two schools.
Sun is kinda old news to most Texas fans. Most of us consider Eggleston the equal of Sun, if not better, so her leaving hasn't been a significant impact on the team.
In regards to Sun, I get the impression that everyone just wants her to be happy.

Because the primary criteria for assigning the remaining teams is geography, not ranking.

on Eggleston's worst day, with the flu, having just broken up with her SO, and on a gimpy ankle.

So, Hawaii to Seattle, again? Illinois to Waco? Utah to Provo. Colorado State to Palo Alto? Geography rules. Yup. If those teams are at full strength at playoff time, I'd be real nervous as the top seed in those regionals. I was thinking subregionals... Hawaii was sent to Seattle in 2017, 2014, 2012, 2010. They were knocked out once by Illinois (2017) and three times by UW. Considering that during that stretch Hawaii hosted subregionals once and UW didn't host subregionals twice, I'd say they were about due...

I’d imagine Utah is tired of being sent to Provo. The Utes hosted a sub-regional 2 seasons ago.

The basketball tournament makes money, so they can fly teams across the country. Every other tournament only seeds the top 25% of teams then places everybody else based mostly on geography.

In regards to Sun, I get the impression that everyone just wants her to be happy. OTOH, Plummer, yes Stanford's Katherine Kathryn Plummer, looks mad. She's not in the lineup right now, but she was in the hitting line in warmups against AZ and ASU, and was crushing balls. I thought to myself, "These balls are being severely abused."

That makes sense (when in doubt, "money" is often the answer). Thanks for the response.

Why does Hawaii get sent to Seattle so often? Hawaii, if not hosting, has nowhere to drive in. Washington, when hosting, frequently has no drive-ins (unless Seattle U, Portland State, or Gonzaga makes the tournament).
