The fact Miller isn't even there is NOT good. They will not go very far with this lineup. Kudos for winning with it, but this is depressing. I havent read any more of this thread so maybe this is discussed. But, if she is not healthy enough to have made the trip this weekend how was she healthy enough to play last weekend?

Best guess would be lingering concussion symptoms and it's been a month. Does anyone following UCLA of the PAC know if she has a history of concussions?

Remember she didn't play in g4 against Illinois either.

After seeing this MN team, we need another setter besides Shaffmaster next season. Whose to say she will start as a Freshman and, if she does, can handle it. Hats off to McMenimen. Guess you can say she is trying her best
Back Court of Kilkelly, McGraw and Rollins returns. Not working this season either like it should and I am going to go out on a limb and assume at this point they will all be returning in their respective positions.
No more 6 player exits would be a great help too. IMO the head coach is the one that can change all this for the Gophers.

Yikes. What a choke by Michigan. I don't know. Losing a 2 set lead on it's own isn't a choke, especially when the other team is supposedly better and wins sets 3 and 4 comfortably. Maybe a mini-choke from 8-5 to 8-8 or 8-9 in the fifth, but other than that I see nothing that choke-y. It's an overused word. 8 hitting errors in game 5 = hitting negative in game 5 = choke.

Remember she didn't play in g4 against Illinois either. I didnt see that, I dont think. I am sure Minnesota was uber cautious with her. It did strike me as a bit bizarre that they were easing her back in with that 6-2, or whatever it was they were playing. Almost like they were trying to keep her away from blocking rotations to avoid the potential of a head shot. If she did have a setback, that is really concerning. Not for the team (Though, that too), but for her. I may be overly concerned/cautious about that though. I remember thinking Sydney Crosby ought to have seriously considered retiring a few hundred points and 2 Stanley Cups ago the way Lindros did.

Nielsen would have helped. No one else would have contributed. Sorry, but it's true.

And I don't see how that's on Hugh. They won a frickin' B1G title and were the #2 seed. Sorry if that's not enough for some players (although most just wanted to go somewhere to play, or go home, or play beach).

The amazing thing is that this team is now 8-1 in the B1G, with a legit shot at 9-1 first half. No one would have thought that was possible with Miller out for most of it.
2nd half schedule is actually favorable, too. But they aren't going far in the NCAAs with this lineup, imo.

MN is a tough team to pin down without Miller. Their range of play is very big.

MN is a tough team to pin down without Miller. Their range of play is very big. It's because they don't serve or pass very well. I give them credit for being able to win as many rallies as they do, but they go into every match with three major handicaps: 1) they don't get easy points from their serves, 2) they aren't in system on serve receive very often and 3) they have a backup setter who is a major liability as a blocker. And they are 8-1 in the B1G.

Unfortunately the passing is so bad on this team there really aren’t other viable options. McMenimen just isn’t a big ten setter. Good on her for putting forth her best every night, you have to root for her, but her setting just isn’t very good, she’s way undersized, and doesn’t move very well. I continue to be impressed with Pittman, AND Rubright! She’s really starting to assert herself as a blocker. As a freshman in limited PT, that’s all you can ask for from her.

And they could lose on the road to just about anyone except Rutgers. Including MSU on Sunday.
