When is the last time MN hit almost .500 and lost the set?
Thought, when McM trapped Samedy instead of feeding Hart, i thought we were going to lose.
That the team kept their composure and found a way to win is a testament to good coaching.
You are in the lair of the Wolverine, clawing back from two sets down, and you bear down, play point to point, and trust your training.
The Gopher block finally showed up in the nick of time. And they actually got some hands up against the MI setter who killed us in the first three sets.
MN also increased its service pressure later in the match. I believe these two factors led to the dramatic drop in MI's hitting efficiency.
When TayMo gets only nine attacks you KNOW your passing is not up to par.
McM and Samedy have a flickering connection. SS made a couple of brilliant cross court drives late in the match. But by & large I don't think she receives balls she can consistently terminate.
MN has no back row attack. Almost every other quality B1G squad can win points from the back court. For us it's just a pressure relief valve to keep the point going.
Re low error VB: can hardly believe Rollins hit 300. Opponents don't seem to recognize that she rarely tries to terminate. imo, she and the setter need to vary the location, in and pin, to give her more angles and tooling opportunities.
We have to play WI & MI, NE & PSU yet. How many of these games can be won playing low error, keep the point alive, VB?
I fear none unless the passing improves so that TayMO and Pittman can hit in system.
Hart was wonderful, a couple of std.devs. above typical expectation. Can this kind of outperformance turn into her norm? Twould be awesome...and unlikely.
For all the griping/complaining/diminished expectations for tournament performance
I think this was a GREAT win, maybe the best of the year because we found a way to win when passing WAS sketchy, when we couldn't get our MBs fully engaged, and when Samedy didn't ignite until deep into the match.
confidence and resolve can flow from this performance, flawed as it was.
