It's actually mostly because Chase is not a likeable guy to play with. In what respect? I have heard that many dont like his approach to practicing, but if you know more, I would love to hear Not the first time we’ve heard that. There was an OOS podcast episode about a year ago where the subject was discussed. I think Evan Cory was on it. I’ll have to go back and listen, but the gist of it was that Chase is just kind of withdrawn socially and doesn’t really have a rah-rah overly friendly personality the way many top players do.

I was near him at the Norceca event, and felt that. Miles was really expressive after that win, and Chase was, well, smiling, but that was the extent of the celebration.

We probably haven't had the two best potential teams actually play together since Rosie/Gibb and Phil/Rogers over 10 years ago. (and not even the top two players playing together until last year). Before that, it seemed like the best 4 players were almost always on the top 2 teams.

I was thinking today about who I would rather see be the USA's 2nd team at the Olympics.
I have to go with Mudinger. Miles Evans has gotten so much better in the last two seasons. Did anybody ever think in 2020-2022 that Miles Evans would be so close to making the Olympics?
The top 3 guys would've been Partain, TaCrabb and TreCrabb and then maybe Chaim. Cory and Troy maybe had a little bit of hype.

Kind of the opposite of Tri who I guess a lot of people considered as the best US player for a while (or was supposed to become the #1 player) and now the whole world is serving him and he can't get the job done anymore.

I think Chase has been more steady than Tri and Sander is a better sideout player and server than Tri. Tri is a better blocker though.

*DR Norceca* Evan Cory & Wyatt Harrison going into a 3 vs CAN to fight for this Norceca gold Wyatt struggling in getting a good pass or not getting blocked Felt like they let one slip away there. After watching the first set it looked like they should coast to a win and seemed like they thought they would. Then they couldn’t get the momentum back. Canadian blocker put the clamps on Wyatt. I like Wyatt’s game though. His serve is dangerous, good hands, decent block and plenty physical offensively. Would like to see him shoot something other than that soft angle but he’s got some tools.

I think Chase has been more steady than Tri and Sander is a better sideout player and server than Tri. Tri is a better blocker though. If Theo and Trevor are 3 and 4, then how do you account for Miles/Chase outplaying them consistently since World Champs? I would agree with Theo at 3, only because he is the only one of these guys who has a true elite skill (his blocking is probably top 5 in the world). Trevor had a good, short run last year but has been pretty bad since then. There is also the question of whether we are discussing the players at their best or in general. Sander would be the no. 3, and maybe no. 2 if he put work in and was a defender, but we don't credit that. However when Trevor and Theo show up for the first part of the season not ready to play that affects our judgment less. I'd say: Miles P (best sideout player, solid defense at the top level.) Andy (not playing great himself recently though, strong blocker at the Elite level, spotty sideout game) Theo (Great blocker, rest of his game is as average as his physique) Chase (Excellent sideout player, great on-court teammate) Tri (Good at everything, trying too hard to do more now, desperate needs a new partner) Taylor S (Should be best sideout player, a U.S. Smedins. Doesn't care) Trevor (ok sideout player, below average defender, no high level skills) Taylor C (doesnt care) Miles E (Hard worker) A yawning gaping chasm Chaim

I'm not ready to judge this year's results too harsh, since it's still been early( shouldn't be an excuse). The Tri/Chase is a complex choice, Chase knows how to be a professional athlete, so if he's competing, I think he's prepared. The Hawaii gang, I'm not so sure about. Also hard for me to judge Tri with Chaim, who seems to be behind the others in performance. The men's elite sport is falling apart. I assume Theo retires after the Olympics or from FIVB in 2025, as he is currently 39. Chaim turns 38 this month, Chase turns 36 next month, so he'd be 40 for 2028. Tri, Miles E & Trevor turn 35 at some point this year. So, currently outside of Andy/Miles: These are the players who finished in the top ten at MBO last year (added Evan, he took 13th) that are under 33 (under 37 for 2028). TayCrab (32) TaySander (32) Logan (28) Hagan (29) Cody (31) Evan (26) Caleb (21) Jake Urrutia (29) Gage (20) Diego Perez (23)
