Talyor Averill's Monza is about to square off against Fenerbahce in about 10 minutes. Both teams are struggling domestically (which is probably expected seeing the changes in their rosters from last year), but both are coming in after winning their last two matches.

Giesen is struggling against Olympiakos. I’m not sure why Slight isn’t playing—while I don’t rate him too highly, he’s still better than Roling.
Champlin isn’t flashy but is playing pretty well overall. Probably the best player for Giesen today.

Wow—Hanes is a beast. At the end of the third set, the setter didn’t even pretend to have other attacking options. 22 kills, 65% success rate in attack, 4 blocks, and an ace. I can’t wait for the match against Warsaw, as it might be the first real test for him, but regardless of the outcome, this already looks impressive.

Kinda wild how Saint-Nazaire seemed to just steal the French title last year. I really like Ewert and am glad that he got a serious look on the national team at VNL. I'd love to see him in a higher-tier league where he isn't one of two offensive options to see how he translates.
Averill and Monza ended up sweeping FB, which is good because the only point I was able to watch was him power tipping into the net.

Kessel looked bad while Hanes looked great. That is to be expected after he dropped down from the "big leagues." There is a great chance they get worked over by Warsaw, if Warsaw chooses to play their starters, but it will be interesting to see if he will shine against some of his familiar foes.
Dagostino looked very good today too.
I am glad to see Averill back in the Monza lineup.
It was cool to see Mitar back on the right side for Olympiakos today, reminiscient of his Halkbank days. Though he played pretty poorly out there. Pajenk was a BEAST in the middle, and Perrin was on fire. Champlin, Mantha, and Wagner all had a boatload of errors. The team is not ready for CL group stage yet... but the Russia situation is getting them valuable experience.
Hobus looked like a rookie today against a Milan team that is not really a CL contender. Paulson did well in attack, but did not read well on the block.
Ma'a played really well with 4 of his five attackers with at least around 44% efficiency, and 56% kill percentage. Sotola went off with 25 points, including 4 aces and hit over 50% efficiency as well. Though this was against a mad team.
Luneburg handled the matches they needed to in order to open the pool with a chance of advancing before they inevitably get curb-stomped in the next round by JW.

I'm trying to watch the Perugia-St Nazaire match but istg if I have to get out of my comfy blanket burrito to skip another ad I WILL cancel my CEV subscription regardless of if I finish watching. 12 ads in an hour is just ridiculous, especially when I'm already paying like 8 bucks for this.

Aaron Russell had 10 kills on 22 swings with a 41% efficiency in a quick sweep of Knack Roeselare. I got home late last night and only got through the first set.
I think Zawiercie handles Milan pretty easily in two weeks.

There’s a chance that Christenson might play with Russell in Zawiercie next season. Tavares is rumored to be heading to Russia.

Miguel has been with them for 4 years and is signed for at least 1 if not 2 more years. BTW he is crazy good. I do know that Aaron and Kendall ABSOLUTELY love the club and their situation and will be back next year. The Polish experience has been 1st Rate so far. I am confident that Micah will be moving on from Russia yes.....but he too has had a very good experience with his club and the vb experience....just time to move on.

It’s good that Russell wants to stay. I think he’s making significant progress in reception thanks to Winiarski.
