I'm not talking just W/L records. It's also how he has turned a very, very good volleyball program into a volleyball powerhouse on and off the court. Great recruiting. Incredible fan base. A team that draws crowds on the road probably more than any other team, ever. (Washington, with a middle-of-the B1G team, just had their first ever sell out at home against the Huskers.) High school players who yearn to play in Lincoln. And let's not forget Volleyball Day in Nebraska - an event that probably drew more media attention than any single volleyball event to date.

I thought it was Petit who built up the Nebraska fanbase and made the team into a powerhouse

No. Russ Rose is the GOAT, and I don't think it's all that close.

No. Russ Rose is the GOAT, and I don't think it's all that close. LOL You always have this response, and it's always as asinine as it was the first time. Sure, seven national titles and 1330 wins don't mean much. Oh, okay. Not to mention that unlike Cook and some of the other possible contenders, Rose built Penn State himself rather than inheriting a strong program. I like how you don't bother to actually list counterarguments or reasons to dispute the claim. I suspect it's because you don't have good arguments.

I know that you’ve never been in either of their gyms.

No. Russ Rose is the GOAT, and I don't think it's all that close. Yep, dude won 7 national titles. He is the GOAT in my book. Having said that I don't think there was as much competition is there is today because of the growth of the sport. In 2012 to 2018 we saw a huge explosion on the Club scene bringing a lot more players into the sport and it still expanding. The growth of Club volleyball is incredible. I think right now it is going to be virtually impossible for any Coach to win 7 national titles with the way the sport has exploded and also with the transfer portal.

No. Russ Rose is the GOAT, and I don't think it's all that close. LOL Al Scates is the actual vb GOAT: coaching, winning, and coaches in his tree! If John C was a goat wisconsin should have been better, as institution, Stanfords the GOAT, no matter who coaches there they win Championships! Cook has been a good fir for Nebraska: right man right time: considering he is Southern Cal boy who started out with dreams of being college coach in California and now a rancher in Nebraska its a good story. But he’s not the goat!

Who is the GOAT is always a good debate. My lol is reserved for the “and it’s not even close” remark.

That "top three all time" option in the poll is a cop-out. But it's also code for "No."

Washington, with a middle-of-the B1G team, just had their first ever sell out at home against the Huskers. Washington had a sellout because they lowered their prices to $10/ticket from $50/ticket to have a sellout.

One could make the case that some coaches who were very successful pre-NIL justifiably chose not to continue because of the dramatic changes NIL meant for coaching.
Cook chose to stay and seems to be adapting his style to changing times.
