He said "some would say." It doesn't really matter because I don't think that was his point. His point is that his program has to start from scratch with players who have never played at this level, while other programs bring in players who have played at higher levels.
A complaint? I dunno. It's certainly true.

No wonder her previous coach was investigated. Just imagine how the opposing coaches must have felt with her playing against their teams at their level.

As far as underachieving Gatorball, I can remember a time when your Gators were an astonishing 0-for the Final Four, wgen was the last time Mary had a bad recruitng class, Dave has had a third of that...and perhaps they have underachieved from that perspective, but Florida is the great underachieving program and they have the NCAA on there side; just begging for a woman to win one of these things. Sour grapes maybe, but when there is documented proof from the FIVB and CEV that these players had professional contracts and I was getting beat every weekend by a team with professionals on the roster I'm not so sure I'd be all that diplomatic either. Dave, is that you? 7 Final 4's is underachieving? With the #1 class Arizona had, to not even sniff a final 4, that's underachieving.

That's the other side of the coin. At least Rubio gets to play with top Pac10 recruits. I'm guessing about 95% of the other DI teams would love to have that problem.

I hope it's just a matter of time that these "2" will be sent packing home to their countries! ;D

Interesting that she had such a poor night stastically which says to me that she isn't way above this league or level. Rubio never had any comments about Candelas on the USC team sounds like more sour grapes from a coach that clearly just can't get results.

Now that I read it a little more, it sounds like he's getting in two points. The first is that he thinks Kaczor might have a cloud of suspicion because of the stuff that went down at the College of Southern Idaho. www.kpvi.com/index.cfm?page=nbcheadlines.cfm&ID=36620www.magicvalley.com/articles/2006/09/20/sports_local/sports_local.1.txtwww.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060920/SPORTS16/609200335/1032/SPORTSThe second is that other teams are getting in players with experience playing/practicing at a higher level. We have players participating on national teams before and in between college competition. Kim Glass was on the JNT before she arrived at Arizona, and did he complain about that? That's certainly a chance to get access to extensive resources and experience against opponents at a higher level than many college teams. I certainly agree that he's been able to recruit at a high level and he should really have nothing to complain about if his players aren't competetive yet in the Pac-10. His teams in 2000/2001 did everything (pass/set/hit) well, and his current team isn't close in any of those categories.

I would be willing to bet that most coaches weren't thrilled with Candelas's eligibility, Dave included.

I agree that it sounds like sour grapes from a guy who couldn't get to the final four with some of the most spectacular talent available, but he probably has a good point. Doesn't everyone pretty much think Kaczor is a pro and that Mick's getting away with it?

Rubio should log his complaints with NCAA not the press.

Did Candelas play in a professional league?

Wasn't Charita Stubbs, one of Dave's assistants, on the USA JNT staff and that helped them land Ladd, Abernathy and Glass who were all on that team? And Dave, no one is stopping you from recruiting internationally.

I'm surprised Rubio gave the quote to the paper, even if this is something he believes I would think he would keep it to himself. I give him credit for publicly saying what a ton of other D-1 Coaches have been privately uttering for months now.....as soon as the coaches all get together and grow balls, then this kind of crap will end....until that time there will be those who will find the 22 year old professional freshmen from other countries and somehow get them into school.....it is crapola!

Hey Beachman, how about the German players that played on LBSU a few years ago? Couldn't they have played on club systems that could be considered pro as well?
