Bryn and Foluke have improved the most from last years team. Barboza seems slightly better. Fishy is off the floor alot, which is good.

Ailes hurt her right hand. Ya, she lingered a little in the benches before going to the middle to stretch. Hopefully, it's not that bad.

Last year I felt Stalls ran the best slide in the nation. This year Foluke is clearly the best I've seen. What do we think of her blocking though? Not quite Merriweather or Stalls, right? Well, if I may make another Nebraska comparison, I'm still spoiled to Melissa Elmer as a blocker. Her lateral motion was the best of her day. Every time I got to see NU live I would sit on the endline so I could watch her patrol from pin to pin. But back to the future: Foluke's blocking doesn't look as impressive from the sideline as Stalls or Nana, but quite honestly I'm not a big fan of Stalls as a blocker either.

Stanford has no right side. Waller has to be hitting negative on the year, and tonight was really pretty bad. She can block but is just not an offensive threat. When Lichtman played more than a few points against LB State and in Minn, she was pretty darn good. Everything else tonight looked pretty solid after the first game errors. At some point Stanford needs to put the best RS player on the court and make the right side a threat. The good teams are just too quick at the block to only have two options, IMHO.

There were some matches last year where Waller shined. However, I think that is pretty inconsistent. My guess is that Dunning was hoping those types of matches would carry over for her -- but they aren't. I would like to see Lichtman in there all the way around on the RS. I think she is a smart player, can hit the ball, and adds another defensive player to the floor.

Notably, the match against UCLA when Kristin Richards and Cynthia Barboza were in a hitting slump and I think Foluke was out for that match too.

I expected that Stanford would be able to take the match at home. It sounds like Ailes is making a big impact for them. I have always been a fan of Foluke, and it is scary that she is getting better. It says a lot about Stanford's ability to reload that they might be better at L2 this year. I know that Richards was hurt last year, but she wasn't bad. I was very impressed with her ability to cover the court defensively when I saw her back in 2004, and she did a lot of shots offensively.

Richards probably in top five among defensive greats who have played at Stanford. Jamie Gregory, Barbara Fontana, and Logan Tom are there also. Ailes may be joining the list soon.

In defense of Waller, I think that she and Bryn were not connecting well. It seems like the set is either too low or too far over. Kehoe is very ambitious and will set whoever without regard to where the pass is - a testament to her abilities and the confidence she has with her players. But sometimes, the set suffers.
I think that Waller is a better player than Lichtman. Maybe it's because I haven't seen enough of her, but I think Waller is the better offensive option than Lichtman. Waller has a higher contact point and hits for more power... not to mention, her attack off of one foot down the line is awesome.
Regarding the Kristin Richards debate... Let me preface this by saying that I love Kristin Richards as a player. She's got great heart and a fabulous all-around player. But she did have her weaknesses, which I think are addressed with the addition of Klineman. Richards had a tendency to hit into the block an awful lot and everytime she got set, I never knew if the ball was going down for a kill or straight into the block. While Klineman did not have a great match tonight, I believe that she is a better offensive option than Richards, especially from the back row (that's where being 6-5 really helps!). As for her defense, I think that Gabi Ailes brings a different energy and attitude to the team. Both are great defenders and so I feel that the absence of Richards is made up for with the addition of Ailes. Not to mention, you gotta love Ailes' jump serve!

Foluke was named MVP of tournament, Bryn and Cynthia named all tournament. Sorry, didn't listen to the other names.
Gabi's hand was wrapped in ice and was wiping back tears during the stretches. not a good sight.
Stephanie was dressed and participated in warm ups, after being MIA thursday and friday.

game 1 14-14 klineman hitting into the block .... it makes me so mad when tall people hit at a low contact point. not her fault, it was a low inside set to her.
