Is she the only projected recruit for Hawaii next year?

Hawaii also picked up Brittnay Hewitt, a 6'3 middle from Idaho. Supposedly, Shoji is looking at another recruit as a utility player for any position (posters suspect it's Jupiter but there is nothing to indicate any of that).

Roy, isn't Jupiter going to USC? Or isn't that the school she *would or *could go to if she wasn't an eligibility mess?

We need a very good transfer middle. That's probably the only position that'll have big question marks about? Outsides will be locked when Kanani will contribute next season. I say: OH1: Jamie Houston OH2: Kanani Herring OH3: Hittle/Ferrell OPP: Aneli/Keefe MB1: Kaufman MB2: Simmons MB3: Hewitt Libero: Kaahiue DS: Lee Setters: Brandt/Mafua *We will probably get a transfer or Jupiter. ?

Again, nothing is set in stone and a lot of it has been some speculation among the forum with no solid evidence one way or another. To me, Shoji should be looking at a tranfer middle to fill the spot for Sanders. Hewitt will be a true freshman and Simmons is still a little raw. Thomas should still be around but how she holds up during the season is another issue, especially with 2 injuries already.

why cant we get a really tall recruit? Whats going on with the 6'5" girls going to other schools? Sheesh. Is Dave just recruiting hobbits or what?
IMO, Herring is too small to play outside in D1 volleyball. Unless we can match her up with all the smaller setters. But even so, middle blockers are mostly like 6'2" or even 6'3" or even more! Herring is more like 5'10". She can't hit line all the time. I think she's just not tall enough to compete. Although, Cubi-Otineru isn't all that tall either and neither is Hittle.
It'll be interesting where she'll start next year.

Although only 5'10, Herring has amazing jumping ability. Not all great outside hitters are over 6'0. Willoughby was probably at best 5'10.5, Florida's Cruz was 5'11 and Jen Saleamua was only 5'11 as well...and of course the amazing Cal OH Pressy at 5'9.
Hawaii has had success with small OH's...Robins 5'8 (but man could she jump)...Lovelace at 5'9...but again...that's when little people ruled!!!

Willoughby I think was really around 5'11.2" or whatever. And Mussie from Washington is only 5'9" and she was very instumental in helping UW sweep USC....so maybe you're right. Lets just hope that she's as good as the press makes her to be. No pressure or anything.

A 5' 10" outside hitter if she has hops like Herring can do just fine.
Jupiter is the real wild card in this recruiting class. IMHO she has the potential to be a dominant player and she has been very underated. Unlike most other junior players, don't think she spends hour and hours in the gym with private lessons, etc. and has spent more time on the beach. She also played for a good, but not great club team and hasn't played in high school. Hence, she hasn't been rated as high as some other recruits. BUT, she was seen playing in a co-ed open beach tournament this summer and those who saw her say she was absolutely crushing the ball---on the beach, on a men's net. Moves great on the court.
With a good coach, she could be a real force.

Willoughby wasn't even top 5 in her class (I believe), neither was Kahumoku. I just look at those who have transfered (Bown/Prince) - relatively unknown before Hawaii - and look what they meant to the program after they left.

I hope Shoji can get an impact transfer from the PAC 10 next season. We need someone who can compliment Houston on the left.

here are my thoughts OH1: Jamie Houston ok. were good. firepower there, but needs to regain her backrow attacks and add some more finesse. OH2: Kanani Herring ? not sure *praying* OH3: Hittle/Ferrell hopefully hittle can be healthy and or ferell can bring firepower we need. OPP: Aneli/Keefe * anelli needs to improve fitness. keefe good and fit, but not too much firepower. MB1: Kaufman * i wish she was 3 inches taller, but she should be good here. MB2: Simmons * she needs to gain some muscle weight, but she looks to be quick. MB3: Hewitt * not sure.* Libero: Kaahiue * improve finess, but skills will always be there DS: Lee * keep digging!! she should be ok as well
