Joel McCartney is a great coach. Is not. Is so. Is not. Is so. NOT NOT Is so, is So. You liar. No, You're the liar. Curses on you. Curses on you! I played for McCartney, he may be tough, but its tough love. He beats stuffed pink bunnies in his spare time. He volunteered for Mother Theresa in his spare time. __________________________________________ There, I just saved you guys nine pages of reading. I came here for an argument!

I know there was an incident a few years back where he hit a player with a clipboard... some felt that he hit the player, and others felt it wasn't that hard and was more akin to when you slap your buddy's arm and say "you dope!"
That wouldn't get him fired now, however, unless there has been a continuation of his personality flaws revealing themselves. But while he's not likable, he's not stupid either, and his wife is right there to stop him from doing anything too silly, so I'd be curious as to "why now?"
And yes, this could be a very good job for the right coach. And being a Nebraska guy, I could certainly see Joel resurface at UMKC or ND State.

SC - wow - 2 'Cheer's references in one night, in TWO threads, no less. Congrats. I love it.
Nerd - don't see Joel resurfacing at either place you mentioned due to the actions/personalities of previous coaches/A.D.'s and that dynamic. JMHO

FWIW, he has had a "tough" reputation around these parts.....I will say this however, Ga Tech played them early pre-season match of this season as we generally do...after the match (GT won in 5 btw in their LOUD gym w/ 2nd largest crowd ever to watch a vball match there) Joel came up to my daughter and the other Senior on the team and congratulated them on the win and on their 4 year careers @ Tech.....class act I was there when he said it and felt it was something more coaches should do to honor the kids who have competed at that level for 4 years....I pray nothing happened and that it was pure results driven decision.....

I'm not saying this is the case here, but I've known coaches who constantly berate their own players, go out of their way to shower opponents with praise after games, then implore their own team to "be more like them."

I'm not saying this is the case here, You are implying that. by making a statement like that in this particular thread, you are implying that it is the case here. that is how these threads become so full of speculation. Later down the line some one will quote your thread as being a statement about this case.

I was simply responding to a previous poster who said Joel was a class act after a match. I once worked for a coach who treated his team like crap pretty much all the time. After a game, he would go out of his way to congratulate and praise each member of the opposing team in the hand shake line, then berate his team and implore them to be more like them. Does that describe Joel? Don't know and don't care. I'm not calling him out. Unlike the Texas Tech situation, of which my pre and post analysis has been spot on, I'm not privy to any inside or outside information here. Generally speaking, what we as fans see on the outside is not what the team is exposed to on a daily basis.

I was simply expounding on my earlier post. I guess I should have sent him a PM. My bad.

Joel recruited my daughter relentlessly. Wanted her to visit campus and verbally commit as a sophomore. She had a lot of options at that time and was leaning west but we encouraged her to visit a big rah rah SEC school. She finally said she would visit and he immediately started backtracking on what he had been saying for weeks. As soon as he thought he had her interested he said he still wanted her but wanted to wait to make an offer blah, blah, blah. That was enough of his character for us and we cancelled then trip immediately. No regrets fo us but I have often pitied the girls who had to play for someone like that.
