Joel recruited my daughter relentlessly. Wanted her to visit campus and verbally commit as a sophomore. She had a lot of options at that time and was leaning west but we encouraged her to visit a big rah rah SEC school. She finally said she would visit and he immediately started backtracking on what he had been saying for weeks. As soon as he thought he had her interested he said he still wanted her but wanted to wait to make an offer blah, blah, blah. That was enough of his character for us and we cancelled then trip immediately. No regrets fo us but I have often pitied the girls who had to play for someone like that. I know a girl who had a similar recruiting experience with Joel last year, and she didn't want anything to do with him after that. So she signed with another school.

All Coaches/Schools have their positive/negative points and each player needs to find the situation that has the best balancing act for them.
I know several families whose daughters were recruited by UGA and some who decided to play there. The consensus opinion I heard was that they thought/think that Coach McCartney is demanding and that they knew that going in. You could say the same thing about most other coaches. I also know players who wished their coaches were more demanding.
The other consensus was that the facilities, financial support (i.e UGA charters flights which is not common in the SEC) of the program, the educational opportunities at the school, and the town of Athens were great.
One group that this announcement benefits are committed 2011s who are signing NLIs this month. If I were them, I would want to know about a change now rather than after I had signed a NLI.
Hopefully Coach McCartney finds another opportunity and has success.

Best of luck to Chad. Super solid all-around, but definitely could use work on his ACE*** game . Hopefully he gets the nod to stick around.

Just heard that damn rumor again from a completely different source. I think it has legs.
What are the rules about coaching college and club? It's something about 50 miles, but I'm not sure what that means.
