Pretty funny. I remember when you only played with one ball which was chosen by the two teams before the match. The arguing over the choice was often better than the match. No one would have conceived of using more than one ball in a game.

There's something really wrong about an A or AA player wanting to take on anyone they out-level to that degree. Don't knock it. I remember a top player (RIP) who would challenge 4-6 person teams in order to get the court back for doubles. He could lift, throw, and double balls better than anybody I have ever known. The picnic people never knew what hit 'em.

Even better is being a top player that beats a team legally...don't knock it till ya try it...if you can. One-on is the best practice for control passing ever, since the punishment for poor passing is immediate....start running!

#71 - Don't hold your hand up (STOP sign formation) JUST because you got beat on the last play and want to "frame" the next play as: "I need a little more time to get ready so I BEAT you FOR SURE"! Remember, timing is everything and if you just got beat, YOU should be ready before the server!!! The server has to leave the area of play, gather the ball, decide on the serve, call the score and yada, yada, yada....All YOU have to do it drop in the sand, so DON'T hold up play!!!! Get down!!!

#70 - KICKING the ball AFTER a fault/game loss – Few can pull it off: Casey Jennings (Yes), Sean Rosenthal (Yeah)...........YOU: Uh, no so much…BUT, it can get even BETTER: The WORST is kicking the ball down the beach when you DIDN’T EVEN BRING A BALL TO PLAY … Now, THAT is REALLY admirable… By the way, WHY did you kick it in the first place? Oh, that's right, you got BEAT. Poor ball, just think what IT wanted to do to you when YOU flubbed that easy play that would have taken you to OVERTIME ! ; - )

Big pet peeve is when someone yells "hit the ball". If you didn't want to come outside to play outdoor ball...go find five friends, take your indoor ball back in the gym and let the outdoor players play Yes, I'm talking to you...

Kicking a high quality ball outside of a game is NEVER ok.

Your having a bad passing day, and shanking everything and your partner doesn't run down the errant passes and try to better the ball and make something out of it but gives up. Very annoying, that was the story of my sand volleyball last night as I hadn't played in awhile. Whereas when my partner makes a bad pass I try to run it down and make it a hittable ball or bring it back in, sometimes ive ran to it and dove and made a great one arm stick save set for him or her (that was great and the hitter killed it), but not everyone has that kind of commitment on errant passes lol
When you don't' work to bail each other out, everything tends to implode :/
*Also how hard is it to get someone to understand your not that strong of an attacker so you like your sets more straight up and down instead of ones that fly across your body or shoot out to much?

#69 – We’re NOT playing OLD RULES – They call them OLD RULES because, they’re, well, OLD RULES. Once a decade has passed, IT’S OVER. Remember that girlfriend you had in college you JUST CAN’T GET OVER? Well, she’ NOT TWENTY ONE anymore either ; - ) So the next time you ask “What rules are we playing”, DON’T…

#68 - If you're playing on an OLD SCHOOL SIZE COURT, then old school rules DO APPLY. The only point of discussion is whether rally score as side out is too difficult a concept for many 20 somethings to understand, sad but true.
Let serves are ALWAYS a joke.

kokyu: I've seen MANY a fast player dig a net serve...and many a 6'7" player hit over a block....Just say'n....As JFK once said "Life is NOT fair"....Ouch!

vbj,
I don't play on a kiddie court so let serves are still illegal in my world. I can block hitters half a foot taller than me so not complaining there. You realize beach volleyball died with the switch to new school right?

Well, no I didn't realize that...LOL....The discussion on short v. long is I believe is a "belief system" similar to religion. What you KNOW, is right, what is new is wrong....Yes, it was developed for TV, it seems, but there are some attributes to short court that are alluring....The court is defensible, whereas BIG COURT is not (you MUST give up some area)...Serving INTO THE NET, per the ethos of other sports, should NOT be a forgiving thing, so no problem here for giving up a point for that....

'Old school" still lives on...regional areas still hold on to the true spirit of volleyball. Rally scoring killed the best thing about the sport...the fact was that you could lock down your opponent and come back to win, no matter how far behind you were. I remember a Jose Cuervo where we went down 0-10 in an elimination game, mostly due to a 3 hour wait from pool play and a serious wind change then won 12-10...went on to win the tourney.
