Well.... I think Hawaii can still beat Long Beach State. Hawaii beat them even without Jane Croson. It will be a tough match for UH but I think they will battle hard and will win at the end! LIKE LAST TIME! LBSU only has Haleigh Hampton and Erin Juley. And Joy Milley. Hawaii still has many amazing players.... Hawaii can beat LBSU with these amazing girls on the court..... OH/OPP- Emily Hartong, Tai Manu Olevao, Ashley Kastl, Nikki Taylor MB-Kalei Adolpho, Jade Vorster, AND IF HAWAII GET TRANSFERS!!!! Setter- Mita Uiato, Taylor Higgins (GREAT BACKUP SETTER! AND WILL BE USEFUL WHEN THEY DO THE DOUBLE SUB TO HAVE 3 HITTERS IN THE FRONT ROW! Libero- Ali Longo First of all Erin Juley is not returning this year, and Long Beach State returns Chisom Okpala who had a breakout year last season, also Janisa Johnson will be back along with Bre Mackie, and Alex Reid, and Tiara Wallace, all saw action last season. Hampton is not the only star on this Long Beach State team. They will be very tough. I think the setter you are referring to is Roenicke. I know she is not returning. Juley was their starting setter back in 2011 and I thought she would be back. Also, Johnson graduated, so she will not be returning. But your point is well taken that Long Beach will be returning a number of players who saw a lot of playing time last year due to the injuries. So, they will be very experienced team and will hopefully be a good match. Similar to Hawaii, their weakness looks to be their back court. Jackson and Fontanilla (DS) took a lot of the passing responsibilities and their digging. Ironically, both teams are traditionally known for having great back courts so it will be fun to see what they do with the players they have this season.

You say long beach state has a lot of players with experience.......well Hawaii does too. And for defense I think Hawaii is still going to be better. They still have Emily Hartong and Ali longo in the back court. Ali longo is a really good libeo. She played for penn state before and was the starting libero for them. She has a lot of experience playing even better teams like Stanford, etc. all those good teams penn state plays. Tams way better then long beach

I know Roenicke is done. Janisa Johnson has been granted another year to play for the 49ers. They return Haleigh Hampton back from injury. Chisom Okpala returns along with Tiara Wallace and Alex Reid.

Even without Juley and Roenicke, I'm sure Brian Gimmillaro will put someone else on the floor just as good.

Chisom Okpala returns along with Tiara Wallace and Alex Reid. How interesting. I didn't know that. This will certainly make things interesting for Long Beach. Johnson is their best all around player and most importantly, their best passing outside hitter. A new setter does make it a bit difficult but if the passing holds up, Long Beach will definitely be dangerous, especially with the middle attack they can produce with Okpala and Hampton.

Okpala and Hampton are a good combination in the middle but Adolpho and Vorster can easily match up to them. Adolpho and Okpala both around the same height and are quick and athletic. Hampton and Vorster are tall and can block well. Vorster is gonna be an offensive weapon next year! We saw glimpses last season bt she is coming back even better!

Setting is also very important in volleyball so if Long Beach State does not have a setter they are screwed LOL.

At least Hawaii would be all rounded in ever position. And are better than LBSU in certain position.

HV1 you've just rambled on for three posts in a row. We all get it that you think Hawaii is going to be better than LBSU, enough already.

Based on what I saw last season, Okpala is way more athletic and FASTER than Adolpho. I've knocked on Adolpho last season as I was expecting more out of her being that she came in with a high jump/track background as well. To me, she was not (maybe she's better this year) fast to the outside to close the blocks and she lacked that explosive jump (ala Kaufman) that I expected from her because of her track back ground. I hope she can prove me wrong, but I thought with the limited time she did see the court, Tuaninga was faster on the back quick/slide and had better foot speed in closing the blocks. Vorster can/should hold her own and with a year of experience and playing beach this spring should be vastly improved.

I am just hoping that Long Beach notches some quality wins during the pre-season....2 or 3 wins against either Illinois, Kentucky, Florida State, Oregon State, UCLA should put them back into the top 25 as long as they don't lose to the likes of Air Force, Seattle U.
