Okpala and Hampton are a good combination in the middle but Adolpho and Vorster can easily match up to them. Adolpho and Okpala both around the same height and are quick and athletic. Hampton and Vorster are tall and can block well. Vorster is gonna be an offensive weapon next year! We saw glimpses last season bt she is coming back even better! Based on what I saw last season, Okpala is way more athletic and FASTER than Adolpho. I've knocked on Adolpho last season as I was expecting more out of her being that she came in with a high jump/track background as well. To me, she was not (maybe she's better this year) fast to the outside to close the blocks and she lacked that explosive jump (ala Kaufman) that I expected from her because of her track back ground. I hope she can prove me wrong, but I thought with the limited time she did see the court, Tuaninga was faster on the back quick/slide and had better foot speed in closing the blocks. Vorster can/should hold her own and with a year of experience and playing beach this spring should be vastly improved. Agreed. Although I like watching Adolpho, she never striked me as real quick (like a Kaufman). It seemed she relied on her physicality/strength to get the job done. Curious to see how she has improved and will contribute this upcoming season. I do think that Tuaniga is the quickest of the bunch (in terms of lateral speed), but she just has been injury-plagued and has lost out on the on-court experience.

ADOLPHO WILL GET BETTER DONT WORRY! HER BLOCKING IS ALREADY VERY GOOD! SHE JUST NEEDS TO BE MORE OFFENSIVE. ITS AN EASY FIX THOUGH ALL SHE HAS TO WORK ON IS THE STEP OUT MOVE....SHE NEEDS TO BE FASTER. Jade Vorster on the other hand is gonna be amazing next season! Gonna be a monster at the net and block everything. and she is one of the best offensive middles i have ever seen. Once she does the step out move she will be even better! and who knows Hawaii may get another transfer since Stephanie Hagins transferred...Hawaii needs at least one more transfer in the middle or outside/Opp.

Adolpho will be fine next season. One thing that she has an advantage over the rest of the team is her strength. Even when she first came in as a freshman, Shoji recognized she was one of the strongest on the team. I remember in that one UCLA match when she was connecting really well with Stauber. The thing that separates her from Vorster is her height and shots. Vorster is obviously a lot taller so she has a lot more shots than Adolpho. For example Vorster can tip right over the block which is harder for Adolpho since most hitters are her height. Hawaii should be fine in the middle for 2013.

But I hope Dave Shoji gets at least 1 more transfer! I feel like we need more players competing for the middle position....so that Hawaii will be better and we will have more depth in that position. We need at least 1 more middle or OH/OPP. I hope Dave Shoji listens to me

Yes, Adolpho is the strongest of the middles but is also the slowest. She can overpower opposing blockers and shut down opposing attackers, IF she gets there on time. I swear she moves in slow-mo at times which is why her step outs are never that explosive. Frankly, Tuaniga seems like a better example of a middle, in that she moves and attacks faster. Vorster needs to improve her timing and learn how to actually hit the ball. She got such a high hitting percentage, but oftentimes, it was because she was off her timing on her jump and/or arm swing, which confused opposing defenders, and her touches on the ball turned to kills. But she needs to learn how to attack the ball, and not rely on the "Oops I didn't mean to touch it that way but, hey it fell down for a kill!" She needs to look at tapes of Prince, Sanders, Kaufman, Gustin, Duggins, Hartong and all the other recent middles. Even Kari Gregory with her awkward arm swing was a more explosive attacker than Vorster.

You make it sound ilk they are horrible...when they are not! REMEMBER THEY ARE YOUNG MIDDLES FOR HAWAII! THEY WILL GET BETTER EACH DAY! THEY ARE ALREADY PRETTY GOOD AND THEY ARE YOUNG FRESHMEN/SOPHMORES. They still have many more years with Hawaii they will get better. trust me.

You talk like you know everything, and then second guess yourself when somenone corrects you. We don't need transfers, and we definitely don't need anymore middles. We have seen what happened to the last transfer from Washinton State. What we need is another libero, a really good one.

You said we don't need another middle? are you serious? There needs to be some competition for that middle position. And why would we need another libero this upcoming season?!?! we have a great one already! ALI LONGO!

We need another OH or OPP that can consistently put the ball on the floor with out of system sets and especially during crunch time. We have one in Hartong, we need another.

I think Tai will be that player, she has improved tremendously. Also we have young players with so much potential and talent that can make a big difference this year and next year. I think Nikki Taylor will be looked at a lot this season, and then we have Kalei Greeley coming in next season.

Shoji has offered her a scholarship so he must think very highly of her serve/receive, passing and defensive abilities. Longo had her bad moments but she always seem to dig out of it. All last season Shoji never did take her libero jersey off so I expect the same this season. (Maeda had the libero jersey on the last set of the Riverside match for her senior moment)

Honestly, I didn't see anything last year that would lead me to think that she would be a 'go to' OH, but I really am hoping that she is able to take on that role. Looking forward to seeing Nikki play this season, and how she responds to the college game.
