It was good to finally see some youth plugged into the national team. This team will struggle this year but Speraw is a great coach knowing that they will get experience now and peak in rio. We have some very talented players but most are making there first starts at this level. Dave smith was definitely a solid force in that game it will be interesting to see what happens at that middle spot with holt Holmes and lee competing for those spots. Tough to see Matt Anderson struggle a little but the setting wasn't great but good to see lotman and Cirelli getting action. Interesting to Cirelli not play overseas last year and get the nod. At oppo I think Troy will end up being the guy he has good size and is strong Carson is explosive and quick but if the setters can't keep the tempo he will lose his effectiveness against some of the veteran teams and he needs to provide a little more from the serving line and blocking. As for the setters shoji was a little flustered but for his first match not too bad and it will only get better as for Thornton he is a good setter but needs to find his rythmn with this new squad but lack of blocking on the right side was even a problem against Argentina. Still would like to see menzel holt and Caldwell on the court they have some intangibles that you can't teach some of these guys. Couldn't agree more. This team may really struggle this year, but they have the potential. If anyone have doubts about this team then I advise them to pay close attention to our young guys and also remeber how things happened on the women's side last quad. Everybody criticized Hugh McCutcheon for selecting a rookie team that was sent to compete at the WGP 2009 and the team wasn't as successfull at the time but after that year the US women's national team improved a lot and became the strongest team in the world. I guess John Speraw is trying to do the same. IMO it is the right thing to do.

I can't remember the last time a U.S.A. team wasn't dominant on the block.

Let's be positive lol...more of the stand your ground analogy...standing in. We need to play better defense and control in transition we side out, then we can't serve well enough to get the other team outta system at a high enough rate so we are having an even tougher time taking advantage of transition opportunities.

Argentina takes Set 1, 25-23. To be honest without Conte, that team isn't a huge mountain to climb. I think Anderson and mini-Shoji looked good, and Troy did okay. Would like to see some of big Shoji out there in Set 2.

We're never gonna dig like Koreans or Brazilians. To play better defense, we need to block better.
