we are losing sets up 5 points or so because of breakdowns in passing. when other teams have passing troubles, their hitters are very savvy in recycling balls into the block to transition into a covered soft block and better pass.
the second OH has to be an elite level passer, and serviceable attacker to put away the occasional in system set to the OH and pipe attack. Shoji may be the best digger, but he's not there yet as a passer. right now, NONE of our outsides are elite passers. the second OH, or anderson, has to step up to be capable to pass 2 man serve receive with the libero to hide the other OH on float situations, if not, teams will consistently go after any of our outsides and put us out of system without risking high level of errors on jump serve.

yep lionsarm, agree. And i sum up: The United Stated defeated itself with service errors, pass-receive and lack of leadership inside the court.
Take a look at this:
set2 With the U.S leading 20-16, Luiz Felipe Marques Fonteles scored with a kill and gave the serve to Saatkamp, who served for three straight points, including two aces, to tie the score. The score was still tied at 24-24 when the U.S. served the ball out of bounds and then hit into the net to give Brazil the 26-24 victory.
set3 Clark added a kill and Team USA led 22-19. Brazil came back with a block, kill and a U.S. hitting error to tie the score at 22-22. Brazil reached match point at 24-22. Clark scored with a kill before the next U.S. serve went out of bounds to end the match.
Against Poland the same. Now can you imagine the opposite, i.e., Brazil ahead by 4 or 5 pts on that stage of the set (20+ pts) and lose twice? That's why i insist, we need a real leadership inside/outside the court. And give you an example: Aleksiev Bugaria's Cap, when things turn pretty bleak he "shouts and roar" with everibody.

Thanks for that, I am horrible with time zones.
Anyone else think Argentina should have to play the qualifiers next year? They were....not good in the opening round this year. By virtue of being the finals hosts, they'll finish no worse than sixth, so they won't have to defend their place in World League (that'll be Japan and Cuba). Doesn't quite seem fair, though. It's already been determined that Belgium will be the European challengers for next year. Any speculation as to the challengers from Africa, Asia, and the Americas (NORCECA and CSV get one nomination between them) ?
Big-time Olympic final rematch today. I imagine Brazil will win easily. I wish there was some chance Canada could end up playing for a medal (and to that point, is there no fifth place classification match?), but realistically I don't see how it happens.

IMO, FIVB made a huge mistake by changing the format of the WL this year. I just hope they don't screw up again next year. I think a similar format to that of the WGP could be more suitable for the preliminaries and then a different format would be applied for the playoffs including a neutral site. It would be more fair. Just saying.

He's there? He hasn't played since the first weekend. Didn't know he was back.

I love how Russia lines up their shortest players next to Muserskiy during national anthem.

Can't remember the last time Bruno misconnected with any of the middles, but looked like Lucas didn't even go up to try.

Whew, when Muserskiy dials in that serve it's nasty, but Brazil evens it up 1-1
Does anyone else have an annoying box in the middle of the screen? I'm debating whether or not it bugs me enough to change from Sunderland's commentary.
