I looked for a thread with a similar generic title for the 2014 season and didn't find one. By creating this thread, I am hoping this will be sort of an all inclusive thread where all discussions regarding the upcoming season can be held. It seems as though Nebraska leads the league in the number of threads on VT, and as that's somewhat irritating even to me, I would imagine it's even more so for non-Husker fans. THANK YOU!

Ha. Don't thank me yet. The jury is still out on whether this idea will work as designed. I'm guessing at least one Husker fan will be resistant let me just say, I'm a very, very proud Husker fan. When I come on here and see 5 threads with 0 replies, all headed with the title of JournalStar/OWH/Huskers.com articles (which I read anyway), I really start to question how that makes our program look on VolleyTalk........ *also crossing my fingers that this works* Anyway, I'm super excited for the season, and I think this team has the tools necessary to make a serious Final Four run. -L1 and Libero seem to be the only real locks right now, not counting Amber who will also a sure starter... Interesting that Wagner mentions Amber moving to L2-- is that speculation or is there real talk about that? ... -From the China match, I liked what Keil and Larson offered, and wouldn't mind seeing them as our top 2 MB's to start the season. Keil is currently riding a wave of success; I know the coaches like her, she had a good sand/beach season, and she also seems to be a great fit chemistry-wise. The middle really should be our deepest position right now... Hopefully this allows not only more production from the middles, but also draw the blockers away from Kadie/Amber/ . -Right side/L2. A. Rolfzen? Ostrander? Fien? Albrecht? Ma. Haggerty? This really should be our achilles heal (and if it's not, we have problems in the middle...again...UGH). I find it interesting that Cook drops Alicia's name in with Kadie and Amber in the very last quote of the article. Personally, I would like to give Ostrander a chance at RS. I like her swing, I like her presence, she's got game, and I would like to move Amber to OH...hahahaha. just my opinion. Really a toss up for our 3rd pin.

I hadn't really thought about it but I like the idea of the Rolfzens on the left and Haggerty on the right like the article suggested. And if I'm not mistaken, this is where Haggerty was in club this past year so she has some experience there.

I like the twins on the LEFT. Fien hits a good ball on the RS. Ostrander hits a good ball on the RS as well. Either would be a solid choice and a good presence. The problem on the LEFT, Fien... I don't think she has the ability to terminate. Amber will excel out there.
I hate to say this, but I'm most thinking Kiel and Larson for middle. :/ I liked Haggerty a lot, but the connection just was never there. I do believe she was an All-American last year still tho? She is GOOD, think I remember she went to some personal training center during the off season on an individual basis? If anyone has information on that, let me know.
Hunter is GREAT! It is hard to see her ride a bench, if she does not play --> RED SHIRT HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Big mistake not to do that last year I thought.
I do feel this is GREAT team.

Everyone that wants to move Amber to the left: It's only smart if we can replace her defense at the net which will be extremely difficult to do. She came in as a freshman and almost instantly became a nightmare for opposing L1s. That's a highly valuable asset to have. I can only imagine she'd be even better at it this year. Just because her offensive game may be better on the left, that's not a great reason to move her. Another player has to prove they bring comparable net defense on the right side first.

I TOTALLY agree with this, that is why this would be a tough choice. But they have got to have a powerful, efficient L2. I think she is our only All-American status option, don't you? Fien hits in the blocks, A LOT. She needs more shots. I know COOK is a great coach and see's a lot more than I do about players abilities and potential, but I'm just throwing out ideas. I think you raise a valuable point. Amber's hands are a pair of roofing shingles out there. If she does stay on the RS, it would be because of this point you raise. Additionally, I really do feel Amber hits much more efficiently on the Left. She has lots of hitting errors on the RS. I know Amber was used on her USA team on the RS as well at times, but she did quite well on the LEFT for a period of time too.

I wish Meghan Haggerty was a Badger. With Carlini setting her, she would be unstoppable! It sounds like she mighrt not even be a starter for the Huskers. Also would love to see Larson this season, she could be a real stud.

Also would love to see Larson this season, she could be a real stud. I kind of agree with you on her working with Carlini with ease, when Haggerty was working with Lauren Cook her freshman season, she was also unstoppable. The connection between her and Mary was "D" level last season. It was hard to watch at times. Haggerty is such a talent, I think her play needs to adjust to Mary's, unfortunately, if she wants to reach new heights. They have had a full off season to work on this, if they still do not have this down, I will be disappointed. HAggerty would be the natural selection for the starting job in the middle. I hope they got things worked out.

I don't know what evidence anyone has that Amber would excel offensively on the left. Mostly because there is no evidence. Haggerty wasn't even close to an all-conference player last year. Haggerty's focus in the spring was her conditioning level.

You just violated rule #1 of volleytalk, which is post something thoughtful and reasonable. I will be notifying the moderators if this continues.

"Two top-15 teams from last season — Stanford and Florida State — will be in Lincoln in three weeks to open the season against the Huskers in the AVCA Showcase.
Later, the Texas team that ended the Huskers’ season last year with a sweep on its way to the NCAA Tournament Final Four is back in Lincoln for a nonconference match."
All of these questions/speculation in this thread will be answered post haste.

HH is very happy to see the possibility. I think the Rolfzen duo on the OH positions would be lethal. They both have a huge repertoire of shots that a right side just can't utilize. I know the blocking will be difficult but offensively, its will give defenses fits. Thanks for sharing Nebraska....you made my day. Do you suppose John has been reading VT? I am kidding Dorothy!
