Do you think Kyleene may switch? *shrug*. I found it interesting that she personally commented on Tui's announcement as head coach - no inside knowledge re this one. Even if she wanted to, I'm not sure how it works with signed LNI's. Manning signed an LNI with Washington, but she's apparently switching to A&M (I'm not upset about this though, we have setter depth and she's not a good enough hitter to make a difference). LOL! I noticed that too. That could be the first time she showed any interest in UW Volleyball. UW Beach now has a better team and a new coach .... Mom and dad are locals. Come on Ky.

I'd love to have her join the 2023 class, get Grote for another pin option, pick up the best passing OH and the best middle we can find in the portal (unless Summers stays another year). I edited my post earlier, but I do think she (Kyleene) is a solid pin prospect. I'm not sure if UW will run a 6-2 next year or not, but if we do, and Summers stays, having Kyleene as a possible setting AND hitting option would be great for depth.

An NLI is a contract between the player and the school. The school guarantees a scholarship for one year, and the player guarantees to enroll in the school and play for one year.
I don't know what the penalty is if the school renegs, but it's probably money. The penalty if the player renegs is that they have to sit out for a year *and* lose a year of eligibility.
Players and schools can agree to revoke the contract, however. This means that the school can allow a signed player to regain that year of eligibility if it wants to. This happened to Kylin Munoz -- she signed an NLI with BYU and then reneged and went to UW instead. She sat out her first year, then played three. That would have been the end of her eligibility except she went to BYU and asked them to give her back her year of eligibility. BYU agreed to do it. (It was never publicly announced why she changed her mind about playing for BYU, but BYU did announce that they were convinced it had not been for volleyball reasons, and that's why they agreed to give her back her year of eligibility.)

Do you recognize NKYVC coach, Mike Bryant? He used to live in Seattle and I think was involved with UW Volleyball when they won the national championships.

I did not! but, just so there is no confusion - when I'm watching women's volleyball, the only time I pay attention to men on the court is when they are acting a fool (See Mick Haley or Jim Moore) or when I think they provide some eye candy .

I believe 4 is right, depending on Summers.

I'm watching NOJ Forefront vs Club V. Alexis Haury is indeed the real deal. Her decisions are good, she is deceptive, and she sets fast to all locations. What stands out to me is her serving; Club V struggling with her serves. I cannot comment on her blocking as NPJ Forefront is running a 6-2. I can tell you that with Haury in NPJ makes runs and with her out they struggle. Gosh I hate 6-2 offenses. Club Vs setter ain't bad either. I watched Haury and the NPJ 18s Forefront team in KC this past weekend. Those 2 strong side pin hitters that joined the team (Filimaua and Acevedo) are the difference makers for them this year. They are really fun to watch. They had the eventual champion Drive Nation in trouble in the quarterfinals but let it slip away when the offense sputtered toward the end of the deciding set. Haury does indeed have a great serve and some quick, deceptive sets but she made some head scratching decisions at critical junctures. Obviously this was just a small sample size but recognizing match up advantages and who has the hot hand will need to come into focus for her at the next level. NPJ was running a 5-1 and Haury wasn't able to put up much resistance blocking so I would imagine UW will need to go to a 6-2 if she's at the helm.

That NPJ team is very good, and they would probably be better if they had better local competition. The scary thing is that Filimaua might be the 3rd best OH in WA behind Lauren Dreves and Abby Harrell. Filimaua is amazingly strong and plays great defense; the fact that she can set is an added bonus. Let's also not forget that she's doing all this after a devastating knee injury just last year so she's mentally tough as well. I know she committed while still in the 8th grade, but how in the heck did UW miss out on her? While I'm asking how did they miss Dreves?

He really knows how to developed athletes. With that being said, I believe his recruiting talent dropped every year. UW has an amazing program with a lot going for it. The program should be attracting top talent but that hasn’t happened since Cook took over.

Julia Hunt was one of two middles named to the NIT all-tournament team by PrepVolleyball.com after their 17 Elite title.

Has there been an elite program that has had a worse offseason than Washington so far? I hope Leslie has some good surprises in store.

We had a coaching change and promoted from within, just like the last go around. The only players confirmed as not returning are the players that are graduating. We’ve only had one future decommitment, and, if I’m being honest, it’s one that probably won’t be missed. I liked Manning’s all around game but that was prior to injury. She very likely wasn’t going to be an elite OH and with Haury in 2024, she wasn’t needed for setting. I’m not sure who Washington is being compared to here, but I can think of other high drama turnovers, even among “elite” programs (*cough* USC). I don’t even know who we ARE being compared to. If by elite we mean programs that are regular fixtures in the sweet 16+, very few of those programs have even had coaching turnovers in which to compare.

Maybe underwhelming or disappointing would be a better word. They hired a great coach, but lost a couple other great ones. Thankfully there hasn’t been an exodus of talented players. But Summers is a big loss if there’s no replacement. And that’s the thing, there’s been no injection of new talent. They haven’t got any transfers… and haven’t even been in the conversation for the top ones already signed. Hopefully Grote, Weske or some surprises pan out. Otherwise, there’s no reason to think they won’t have another disappointing season.
