I would agree with some of this. I think both assistant hires were very below par and disappointing for what the Washington program should be and not nearly on the same level as having Tui and Jason on staff. They definitely took a huge step back there as well.

But Summers is a big loss if there’s no replacement. I don't believe Summers leaving has been confirmed. She's still listed on the roster. We had been looking for a couple one-and-done grad transfers (with which UW hasn't had a lot of luck), but who must be accepted into grad programs before they can be announced. Manning being released from her NLI opens up a multi-year slot.

The doom and gloom is premature, as are the knee-jerk reactions to Tui's assistant coach hires. You can't make snap judgments simply because the name recognition of a coach is relatively low. Only time will tell and we all need to give Tui and her new staff a few years (at least) before we conclude the program is going downhill (or ascending). Regarding Summers, I don't have any inside knowledge but I haven't seen any official confirmation and, to the best of my knowledge, only one person here has said she is leaving. Not saying that person is wrong, just that I'm not ready to conclude she is done at UW without more solid information. I get that people are getting antsy about the lack of news with respect to filling holes on the roster. Again, we need to be patient and see how it all works out.

At this point, I have to assume the new assistant is bringing in some Puerto Rican girls. UW needs bodies, badly. I’m not sure it’s feasible to get through a season with a roster of 13 anymore.

Why people are so into names is beyond me. There have been plenty of “names” that have had multiple disappointing seasons and recently we’ve seen a proliferation of first or second year new head coaches that did not have a big coaching resume, but have made big splashes.

You think big name coaches aren’t good enough. You never think any high level recruits are good etc lol

I think both assistant hires were very below par and disappointing for what the Washington program should be and not nearly on the same level as having Tui and Jason on staff. They definitely took a huge step back there as well. Concepción has 19 years coaching experience, including 8 years Div. I head coaching experience (12 years total). Considering that Tui has ZERO experience as a head coach, this may have been a strategic hire. I did think that his comment, "It excites me to see that we share the same work ethic and passion for the training and development of student-athletes through motor learning," on top of Tui's own comment after being hired that she was focused on becoming "more mechanically sound," was very interesting, especially considering the big fall-off in blocking in Cook's last season at UW. Neither Cook nor Mansfield were pure GM2 coaches. I've also thought that one of the issues Gabriel might have had was that she didn't have a lot of coaching contacts from outside of UW, due to having coached at UW for her whole career.

I’m more worried about the talent on the court. UW has been really good at developing players during the course of their career, and Gabriel has been a big part of that. I imagine we’ll see big improvement from the returners.
But how do they replace Hoffman, Grote, Powell? - I think we could even say Dreschel still hasn’t been replaced a year and a half later. How do they close the gap with the top 3 teams in the PAC?

I have no idea what you are talking about. Firstly, there ARE big name coaches that are overrated, you think that too, and have said so, publicly. And just in the last week, I’ve posted about 2025 recruits I thought were great and, gave specific names of Nebraska recruits (*gasp*) that I thought had potential to be collegiate greats. Are you actually trying to come for me here? I can’t really tell. I hope not, I have no beef with you, or reason to have beef with you, but this post seems a bit hostile (and certainly is factually incorrect) and I’m not sure why.

I'm sure that she's a wonderful person, but other than the family connection, why? FYI, she hit .168 last season.
