I wonder if he is done with AVP...I know Mayer tried to do both last year. With this new job and his potential partners at this stage of his career, might be time to hang it up...

Maybe things have changed?

Interesting that coaching women's beach continues to be a heavily male occupation. I get that these may not be the most attractive positions, but wouldn't ex female players be better qualified for these jobs?

I haven't checked every program in the country, but looking at the Dig Magazine poll shows that 7 of the top 10 ranked programs are coached by women. I don't know if that percentage holds throughout the sport, though. It will be interesting to see how things shake out as more and more schools look to hire beach coaches (as opposed to just having the indoor head coach double up, like John Cook).

I counted 4 of 10 male and 11 of the top 20. It also seems like the plum jobs (the CA ones) trend more male as well. 3. Hawaii 4. Long Beach State 7. UCLA 9. Arizona 11. Washington 12. Nebraska 14. Loyola Marymount 16. Pacific 17. South Carolina 18. Tulane 20.Santa Clara My question would be why there are any male head coaches? The men's and women's games are very different, there is a constant risk of inappropriate relationships - probably not mitigated by BVB uniforms, and a surfeit of available female candidates. Would anyone even consider hiring a woman to coach a male team?

Very good comments about the rationale about hiring a male to coach a Women's program, especially volleyball where not only the approach to the game, but the physical aspects are so different. With guys, traditionally it is an explosive sport, quick rallies, aggressive serving, lots of net play, and a bang away approach to siding out. In the women's game however, especially at the Collegiate level, far less aggressive serving, hardly any dominant presence at the net, in general, much more a ball control, court coverage and shot making game. For these reasons, Todd Rogers will be a fantastic Collegiate coach for the women. His game has always been about ball control defensively, and shot making offensively. He used his shots to set up his power game and was truly a master of the court for the vast majority of his career. I for one think the sport of Collegiate Volleyball is only getting better with every professional addition to the coaching ranks and we have seen two of the best added to the ranks in 2016 with the addition of Todd Rogers and FSU's Brooke Niles.
