I read in a couple of the other threads that Caroline Knopp is transferring to UF. With 8 freshmen coming in, some of whom are studs, where will she fit? She was a fantastic outside up at Michigan, but maybe she'll be our libero for the next year or two? Her defense will be much welcomed, that's for sure. CK tweeted that she was happy to land in Florida. If anything she will certainly raise the compete level in the gym, the locker room and in games.
She is undersized, but is a stabilizing 6 rotation OH, with libero type defence, and this kid hates to lose. Do not be surprised if she gets into the starting lineup.

All indications are that Knop is focused on playing in the back row and vying for the libero jersey at Florida. As much as she competed and held her own in the front row in the B1G the past two years due to injury to other players, she was recruited to Michigan as a L/DS, and was a member of the US Women's Junior National Team as a libero in 2015. At 5'8" and lots of hops she has been able to compete in the front row but her competitive fire and leadership skills will most likely be utilized orchestrating the defense at Florida and wherever the game takes her beyond.

People arnt impressed with weiskircher. Rivera will never start there and demure is a unknown this year. It apparent rose thinks same. No other reason to carry 4 setters. Find the bridge till gabby blossom gets there in 2018 Well I remember Gator fans weren't that thrilled about their setter last year either, especially her sets to the middles and Deterring couldn't beat her out for the starting spot. Gator fans weren't thrilled with Dagostino??? You're making that up.

I think the criticism of Dagostino was more true in 2014 than this past year, when her connections with the middles were pretty good. She had a tough chore trying to set both Alhassan and Antwi, who needless to say are quite different.

Florida finished 4th in the SEC this past season it took them till the post season to really click. I definitely remember a lot of criticism for their setting, people wanting Mary to try Detering.

Detering's departure is concerning, but a chance to play for PSU is hard to pass up. She must have essentially been guaranteed a staring role unless Wise told her she wasn't the presumptive starter at Florida. Can't imagine she wasn't. A quick twitter search lead me to her instagram post and Gabby Mallette was congratulating her. It makes me think that her teammates were happy for her. It's also a 4.5 hour drive home now.
King potentially being ineligible is unfortunate, but redshirting a 6'8'' freshman in Kramer didn't seem like a smart move anyway.
Knop's transfer to Florida turns the Gators into a legitimate title contender in my opinion. The fact that she can hit and provide stellar defense will provide some options and the stability Florida needs. Rogers, Dubiel, Gregory, Knop, Bzoch and the 2 new walk-ons bring the total DS's to 7. Gotta think this is a priority for Florida right now as it was definitely a glaring weakness last year. Rogers is a great server, Dubiel has the most defensive playing time at Florida and Gregory has a lot of hype/pedigree, but Knop has the B1G experience that is too big to pass up. She gets my knod at libero before stepping on campus.
Monserez is an experienced starting setter, albeit at South Carolina her freshman year where she was a bright spot on her team. Husky is tall and I see Mary wanting her to get experience right from the get go. Provide some continuity to this amazing freshman class where they can just get so comfortable with each other by the time they are upperclassmen. Can't see them going 6-2 but if it works out I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
If the season started today:
OH1-Snyder 6' OH2-Sokolowski/Greer 6'3/6'3 MB1-Alhassan 6'4 MB2-Kramer 6'8 OPP-Holston 6'1 L-Knop 5'8 S-Husky 6'2
Definitely our tallest lineup ever. Would consist of 1 senior, 3 juniors and 3 freshmen

I assume Knop can start playing immediately, right?

I don't see Kramer being quick enough to close blocks. She's a big body but I would rather have a smaller middle who can close blocks.

Yeah I get it, but if King can't play (not sure if people mean she's academically ineligible from coming to Florida altogether or what, sort of doubt that though) then who takes the MB2 spot? I guess Shainah could move back to MB, she's a dynamic player who I'd love to see make an impact. If you've got a 6'3 OH and a 6'2 S, then maybe we can depend on them a little more to solo block if the Amazonian MB can only close blocks in a mediocre fashion. Can't Kramer just put her hand up in the middle of the court and close a block on the pins?

I assume Knop can start playing immediately, right? Based on the article and Coach Wise's comments, yes Knop is eligible and able to play starting in 2016.

Would consist of 1 senior, 3 juniors and 3 freshmen There's a good chance that Abby wasn't guaranteed the starting setter job, as it's tough to imagine Coach Wise making a guarantee to any player not named Alhassan. That said, it's nearly impossible to see Coach Rose making any greater commitment to Ms. Detering. Getting a chance to compete is all anyone should expect or hope for. As for the incoming freshmen, clearly everyone affiliated with the program hopes that all of the players in this class are eligible and ready to go in early August. No matter who is wearing Orange and Blue on August 10, it's going to be a competitive gym, with tremendous effort being given to replace the 5 seniors from last year's squad no matter what position, with rare exception, that you are looking at.
