Huskey actually has an extremely impressive block - she jumps high and penetrates. I'm concerned what Florida will do with her in future years. I'm hoping she doesn't transfer, but if Florida stays 5-1 then she either needs to beat out Monserez eventually or wait till her senior year for significant playing time.
Monserez is exceeding my expectations tremendously in terms of set quality and distribution. Strong floor leadership too. I'm hoping she doesn't become a blocking liability, but she's seemed to have held her own for the most part so far. There have been times where she's been taken advantage of though.

I'm hoping she doesn't become a blocking liability, but she's seemed to have held her own for the most part so far. There have been times where she's been taken advantage of though. Huskey does have solid blocking technique and is a very impressive player. If you aren't on the court today, you are always one play a way and the Gators are constantly competing for opportunities. See the fact that Ms. Detering is now setting at Penn State as example one that nothing is promised, but everything is earned at Florida and that every position is open to weekly competition. As for Monserez exceeding your expectations, here's something that will take your qualitative feelings and support them quantitatively. Through the first 13 matches, Monserez has been credited with 30 Block Assists and 1 Block Solo. The great Lauren Carlini, by most people's measure the best setter in the college game, has 32 BA's and 4 Solos. What about Minnesota's setter, SSS? She has 31 BA's and 1 Solo. Even the great Stephanie Aiple from Texas A&M, and last year's SEC player of the year, has comparable blocking numbers compared to Ms. Monserez. She has 34 BA's and 2 Solos so far in 2016. So, those who believe that Monserez who is listed at 5'9" but someone felt plays like 5'6", either has an invisible step stool, or is a heck of a lot longer/more athletic/has great timing more so than others thought. Further, the argument that was made about teams in the tourney going over the top of her more regularly being a concern, I have two points. One, if this were such a significant liability, there is enough film study that opponents wouldn't be waiting until post season play to expose this and two, Chloe Collins in Austin, who is shorter and not as long as Allie, hasn't been a liability in keeping Texas out of the Final Four.

And we're talking 1-2 inches shorter than our last 2 setters. We have Rhamat and a 6-8 middle blocker to make up for that inch lol.

Probably a bad time to ask this, but it's in my head now after seeing the match tonight on TV. How is Florida determining who gets tickets to the home games this year in the much smaller space they're playing in? I'd guess that demand far outstrips supply based on the numbers they usually get at O'Connell.

Will the big Gym be done by tournament time? If not will Florida be able to host?

I was at First Magnitude Brewery a few hours after the Tennessee match and saw Mary and Mark Wise. They have great taste in beer or, if not drinking, know a very fun place at which to hang out.

All round player. Not quite the raw athleticism of Sun or Butler but arguably a better volleyball player when considering all skills. And she's plenty, plenty athletic!! Super High intensity and VB IQ! Would be shocked if she doesn't find her way onto the court very early in her UF career. And once there she is a 6 rotation player!

Does anyone know if Mia Sokolowski has redshirted this year? I'm wondering what Mary Wise's plan for her is and if that includes her holding down the opposite position next year.

Mary mentioned in a interview recently that they have officially red-shirted Mia. Shaianah will be playing Opp next year though, so I have no idea where Mia will fit in. Hammons and Hall will make it hard for anyone else to play in the next couple of years. And we've got another lefty Opp coming in 2018...

I understand its 2 years away, but I'm liking the way 2018 is shaping up. Hall and Hammons on the outside and Warner on the right. That's pretty darn good. Plus Kramer and King will have 2 years of experience in the middle. And Allie will be in her senior year setting.

I'd have to think Mia would be the next option off the bench on the right side next year if Joseph continues to struggle as she has this season. I do believe that H & H will be a dynamic duo though. Their ability to play all the way around will keep them on the floor.

Will Florida redshirt King and/or Huskey? Are they eligible for redshirts?

Will Florida redshirt King and/or Huskey? Are they eligible for redshirts? Definitely not this year, but it will be interesting to see what Mary does, as she's very deep, but hard to keep that many players from going stir crazy in a non-redshirt year. 2017 possibilites: Redshirt King -- she's high potential, but will potentially sit behind Alhassan and Kramer next year. Mary has Kellum as a back-up as needed, so 'shirting King would give her 3 more years, and 2 years playing as the M1 with Kramer in '18 and '19. Resdhirt Huskey -- dangerous in case Monserez gets injured, but they've done that in the past (Shade reshirted in '94 since Aggert had the nod). Unless her setting and floor defense vastly improves this spring, Allie M. is too good a floor leader and back-row player. Plus her blocking hasn't been so bad, but we'll see come NCAAs. But with the final Monserez coming in in 2018 (taller and looks like more athletic), then Huskey might get lost in the shuffle. I agree that Mia will likely be the Opp back-up if Joseph struggles like this year (but RS is her more natural position, so here's hoping her 5th year is stellar). Guessing with Hammond's all around game she'll team up with Snyder, so odds are both Mia and Greer will be off-the-benchers based on how recruiting is shaping up on the pins in 2017 and 2018.
