That men's field may be the worst I have seen in the last several years. Given that the prize money is the same as a regular AVP is it possible that Donald could expand the tour in the future by taking on 3-5 Opens per year in addition to regular AVP events? I know there are commitments that need to be made to FIVB events that may be different but does anyone have an idea what that looks like and if it would be feasible? What does it look like, and is it feasible? Sure, it looks like Brazil this year. Before this May 1st, 2016, Brazil hosted 4 FIVB events on this year's tour: 3 Opens and 1 Grand Slam. It's definitely possible, it's just more expensive to run an Open than it is to run an AVP. It's something like a couple hundred grand for the licencing fee. ... when the AVP "co-hosts" an FIVB event, the AVP folks are treated like the servants and when told to do jump, they pretty much have to ask "how high?" Not sure Donald Sun and company are interested in that type of "partnership." ... I wouldn't really call it "servants" but you do have to play by the FIVB rules... and there are rules for everything. It's important to note that it's not just the AVP, every promoter of every tour event has to play by these rules and do what the FIVB staff says to make sure the events are up to specifications. They are hosting an FIVB event, and The FIVB holds their events on a very high standard. They have many rules, regulations and processes to make sure each event is kept at that standard. Thanks Cam. That licensing fee would be what keeps them from doing it. ty

Bummer that the top Brazil teams are not attending. Why?

Bummer that the top Brazil teams are not attending. Why? You can take Brazil out of that sentence and it rings just as true. For some reason the top teams, including Latvia, Italy, the Dutch, etc. are not here

What happened to McColloch and Reeves? Looks like they got a good welcome to international competition butt kicking by some 13th seed in the qualifier from Germany.

Anyone know when the AVP starts streaming? Or can they not because this is an FIVB event?

Anyone know when the AVP starts streaming? Or can they not because this is an FIVB event? No AVP streams cause it's an FIVB. Maybe a periscope or something but nothing good. FIVB streams start for semis. All the other streams going now are the generic betting sites ones.

5 US teams could get a bye. That would be pretty remarkable. Doherty/Mayer need to get past Canada 1, but Id be surprised if at least four didnt.
I think three US teams make the final four here, with maybe an All North American semis

Sure I mean honestly I think we all knew that, but I never expected you to be the one to say it. Good for you being objective.

Cincinatti is just an open or am I reading the page wrong? COuld be why the elite teams aren't there maybe? Think someone mentioned that yes, it is an Open, with a Grand Slam in Moscow next week. So the travel getting back to Europe would be hard to do for the top teams, especially since it is only an Open.

Such a bummer for the USA women. Jem plays SummerLane in the first main match and the winner get WalRoss. Two early departures for the USA. Too bad without most the main teams there. Oh well at least its just a open.

All six remaining USA pairs on the same side of the draw. Not sure I've ever seen that before.
