Didn't see the Doherty/Mayer quali, and am sure the long flight had something to do with it, but in the matches I have watched of them this year, I notice a reoccuring them with Doherty. IMHO he has really bad body language, he seems to put his head down a lot, and he does an awful lot of complaining about possibly calls that don't go his way, or the do and aren't good. He seems to lobby for "help" from the refs an awful lot of the time. I really don't like his game very much. His skills have come along, and last year was the first time I have seen him play at a consistently high level, but in the 4 or 5 matches I have seen this year, it's been pretty much the same theme every match. So you're saying he's turned into a 7 foot Todd Rogers?

BTW Geddy - you were doing the Lord's work over on that ridiculous beach thread on the indoor board.

Good job by Summer/Lane to make it through qualifier (and they did so with relative ease). Feel like this team has steadily improved over the year (with the exception of the semifinal loss in Huntington). They've got a good shot to advance since their pool, from my view, isn't the toughest. Defeat Fendi/Sweat 2-1. Being 0-2, does Fendi/Sweat have a chance to move on to Elimination Round?

I'm all aboard the Summer and Lane train. I really think in a year they could easily be a Top 10 team.
I'm hoping we get to see Kerri/April vs Larissa/Talita (or any of the Top 4 teams really), looking by their scores today they seem a bit jet-lagged tired. Thankfully they only have to play 1 match each of the next 2 days. I'm wondering if they go home inbetween Grand Slams to play the AVP or stay in Europe.
I always think these FIVB events are probably harder to win than the Olympics. 7 matches over 4 days and the depth of he FIVB events is greater. A lot of the middle ranked teams that pushed Kerri/April in China and such won't even be in Rio because they didn't game the system as well as Fendrick/Sweat types and because of country quotas and stuff.

BTW Geddy - you were doing the Lord's work over on that ridiculous beach thread on the indoor board. Meh, most of the time the "Why I Hate Beach" threads are too silly to bother with - but dredging up an ancient picture of Tyra and Angie while screeching "Shame! Shame!" was a bit much. BTW, has anyone watched either of Ross/Walsh's matches? Looking at the scores, they really struggled today.

After I posted my 1st, I almost went back in and deleted it, I don't like those convos either....But I fully got sucked in. Maybe a little hangover from Cincy??

Didn't get to watch them but I did see they went 3 in each match, and close in the 3rd against Elize and Duda. They've played a good number of 3 setters recently. I didn't check while matches were still going on, are there live streams that we can see in the US? Is 1x working??

It will help them in the future. If they weren't playing well and still won, that too, will come back to help.

A 3 setter in pool play doesnt do anything positive for them. They need to start blowing teams out in part because one of their biggest weapons, intimidation, is waning. For years teams played Kerri and thought "no way I can win" now she is vulnerable. Putting an a-whipping on some top teams this weekend would go a long way to letting the world know Kerri is really back

But, for most part, Walsh/Ross are still learning to play together against tougher competition. Eh, I'm just making excuses. They should be blowing teams out.

If you needed any more proof that FIVB seeding, rankings etc are just plain dumb, the no.2 seed this week is:
Casey/Jake

So, Sweat and Fendrick don't make it out of pool. At what point does the USAV have a conversation with this team about their health? Because technically, the USAV decides who goes to Rio.
