It's called rest and recovery prior to the Olympics. No need to go full force right now

Looking at the entry lists, looks like Kerri and April are skipping all but 1 of the FIVB events between now and the Olympics. They are opting to play the AVP instead. I mean I get playing Manhattan Beach, but why not build the confidence by taking down top teams? They will get nothing out of the AVP. On the flip side, they loaded up on FIVB events that they certainly would have skipped if they weren't trying to qualify. They will get money and rest. For most players I think resting excessively for the Olympics at the cost of making money is a bad idea, but for Kerri it makes sense. Say Brooke and Lauren skipped three tournaments to get ready for the Olympics then played their best and got 9th. Is that worth the 15K they gave up? But for Kerri, who at this point in her career is a constant injury risk, a 4th gold medal is an incredible accomplishment worth sacrificing a little cash for. It will be a long time before anyone else comes close to four straight golds in volleyball. (16 years at a minimum) Kerri would also have a reasonable claim to the title of best female Olympic athlete ever. Not in VB, that is locked up now, but in any sport

Wow Kessy-Day go 0-3 in pool play... Yep, cemented their Oly Spot. Wonder if they stick together now? Assume Jen is probably done Internationally?

Fendrick/Sweat go 1-2 and lose their pool.
Edit: Well, BVBinfo shows them in fourth place, and yet also shows them in the elimination bracket.

Ya I saw that. Did they get a lucky loser or something? Confused for sure.

FIVB.org shows Fendrick/Sweat in third place. They lost point ratio and set ratio. How do the tie-breakers work this year, for a 3-way tie? Is it head-to-head first?

Interesting bracket for the US teams. Probably have to go through 1 and 2 to make the final and 1, 2, and 3 for Casey/Jake

I also love that Lauren and Brooke are somehow the 10 seed, despite:
A career high of 5th They are 17-23 in their last ten tournaments. In 3 of 8 tournaments this year they have not won a match
The teams seeded 11-14:
Have won four events this year.
The only team that hasn't won this year is the Italian ladies who won last year and have a 2nd and 3rd this year.
Eduarda and Elize have won twice this year and made a third final. They have three finishes this year that are better than Lauren and Brooke's career best.
How is this mathematically possible that Brooke and Lauren are still ranked higher? FIVB rankings are the ultimate Participation Award

What's up with Kerri & April? I tuned in to watch Canada vs. USA and it appears Kerri and April have called a medical timeout at 17-13 and Canada is just on the court practicing and then the stream froze?
FIVB Live score says it's at 21-17 now for USA so the stream must be delayed. But did anyone see what happened?

I'm really hoping the Mex men make it in. Like to see NORCECA strong as possible.

Jake Gibb / Casey Patterson United States (6) def. Reinder Nummerdor / Christiaan Varenhorst Netherlands (2) 19-21, 21-12, 15-13 (0:41) Nick Lucena / Phil Dalhausser United States (3) def. Youssef Krou / Edouard Rowlandson France (21) 22-20, 21-15 (0:38)
Top US teams face off next round tomorrow! Both teams will be rested, should be a good match.
Winner most likely gets Allison and Bruno.
