Really interesting first set. Phil absolutely awesome, one of the best blocks Ive ever seen with a hang and swat on Bruno. Nick digging everything but cant put a thing away. Just awful offense. Does he still have a shoulder injury?
Bruno going on two a lot and just showing no confidence in his partner but Nick and Phil also having success when Bruno is swinging. Should be a fun second game

I think Phil & Nick felt bad afterwards. I was more happy that Phil was getting touches and blocks against Bruno.

Brazil was just awful in both games, but Phil is incredible. He gets in guys heads and suddenly you have top ten players scared to swing and then getting roofed straight down when they do. Jump serve looked better, Nick's defense was great. If Nick can consistently get the ball down, and thats a big if, no one beats them.
Too bad Brazil didnt come to play though

Nick did side out very well, with the exception of a couple of bad sets Phil threw up that were way off. I thought Bruno missed a few digs he normally gets though. Nick/Phil are a few points from having an incredible season. At both Cincy and Poland they were in a position to win but didnt and they could still come out of this event having won half their tournaments. Not bad at all for a guy who won his first tournament last year at the age of 35. Whenever the Misty/Kerri argument comes up I always think one of the most compelling points for Kerri is she won 2 of 3 FIVBs with Wacholder, who was nowhere near world class then. I think when people put Phil against Karch, Kent, Stoklos and Emmanuel, becoming the no. 1 team in the world with Nick is going to be one of the most persuasive points for him

It looks like Phil and Nick will be replacing their 240 pt finish in Moscow with this one. I think they can jump into 2nd place, The only thing is, can the NED also climb that high too?

Match Win! Phil and Nick dominate second set 21- 12, as Dutch deflate with many mistakes. Incredible !
And a memorable awards ceremony!

Heard that Lucena outplayed Bruno and after missing 3 or so serves, Alison would not even LOOK at Bruno....!

Heard that Lucena outplayed Bruno and after missing 3 or so serves, Alison would not even LOOK at Bruno....! Nick did play awesome, but if Alison won't look at Bruno, it's because he is ashamed of his own play. Alison was the worst player on the court.

Alison and Bruno look so mortal nowadays. They were so dominant last Summer.
Important win though for Nick & Phil. The #3 seed is a pretty good position for them. It's amazing how Phil can jut turn it on when he need to. A 17th and a 1st in a time frame of 2 weeks. It's why I give them a great shot at Gold in Rio. Phil will get up for those matches.

Nick and Phil easily the no. 1 team on tour this summer. Odd year since the Brazilians have played so little, but its remarkable that Phil has now been part of the no. 1 team with three different partners. Rego did that with Loiola, Ricardo and Allison (and maybe someone else) but he is the only one I an think of.
The giant Dutch are a very good bet to medal. They are so consistent.
