I'm really hoping the Mex men make it in. Like to see NORCECA strong as possible. They're in after Germany's 1st round loss, it bumps them into the last spot. Which is great for Canada too because now we won't have to play them at NORCECA Continental Cup.

Jake Gibb / Casey Patterson United States (6) def. Reinder Nummerdor / Christiaan Varenhorst Netherlands (2) 19-21, 21-12, 15-13 (0:41) Nick Lucena / Phil Dalhausser United States (3) def. Youssef Krou / Edouard Rowlandson France (21) 22-20, 21-15 (0:38) Top US teams face off next round tomorrow! Both teams will be rested, should be a good match. Winner most likely gets Allison and Bruno. Thats a great win for Caseyt/Jake. The scores so far say Allison and Bruno are vulnerable. Hope Kerri is ok, the beating they put on the Spaniards hopefully means she is but you never know. Top 4 women's teams make the Final 4, should be a fun weekend If Kerri/April get this one suddenly they are looking like a juggernaut. I thought Canada would give them more trouble.

What was the injury?
Really excited about all top 4 teams making semis. We probably won't be so lucky to get this in Rio. Laura & Kira are on fire and Kerri/April are bringing up the rear. Wouldn't be the first time they struggled this year to start the tournament and finished it strong.

I actually was up when the Nick/Phil vs. Casey/Jake match was on. 1st set Phil and Nick started real slow, missed swings and at least 3 missed serves before the midway. Jake and Casey were leading I think 15-11 at one point. Then it went like Missed shot, block, near ace couldn't side out. They got real tight and Phil and Nick were steady.
2nd set, Jake were up a point till 14-14, then a couple plays were made, not made and it was over. Phil and Nick weren't really jump serving.
I know Nick is playing behind Phil, but he still makes a TON of plays.

Alison and Bruno definitely look vulnerable. Mainly due to Alison having troubles

Well that Bronze match was disappointing to say the least. I missed the USA/GER SF but it looks like Kerri/April blew a solid 3rd set lead which is always disappointing. As for Larissa/Talita, I said it when they won in Moscow, you can see where the matchup issues are. In Moscow, Kerri/April really took care of their side of the court, had really clutch serving, and relied on Larissa making eons of errors. Larissa cleaned her game up and April really doesn't have the level of defense that can keep up. It feels like Larissa can dig almost any ball. Doesn't help that they can't pass/set efficiently enough to get good looks at sideouts.
With all that being said, they could have easily gotten past Germany and I think the #2 Brazil team would have been a better matchup for them and we wouldn't be even having this convo. We'd probably be talking about them winning yet another title and being the clear #1. That's sport for you.

Their loss this weekend was a coin flip loss and I hesitate to give any credence to bronze medal matches. I do think you are right about Larissa and her defense giving them fits, and also that Kerri/April's main issue is taking care of their own side (especially passing) To me more interesting is who is no. 2? I think the Germans have a strong case as the favorites after Kerri/April

I think they are #1, but they are #1 by a plurality not a majority. To me the matchups within the Top 4 are kind of a game of rock-paper scissors. Certain teams can win certain matchups but struggle in others. Anyways, I never am that impressed by Agatha/Barbara. They seem to take care of their side of the court but nothing they do ever blows my socks off. It's kinda disappointing the Final was the one matchup of the Top 4 that I probably cared to see the least.
As for Kerri/April, I like their draw in Rio. They defo get the easier SF with Agatha/Barbs. Laura/Kira and Larissa/Talita is going to be a friggin' war if it happens. Kira is probably a Top 5 player in the world off of that performance alone. She was fire all week. I think they probably overperformed because of the crowd support, but impressive nonetheless.

Pool.
The draw also assumes that the Top 4 teams takes care of business and win their pool. Otherwise it will be 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3 in the SFs.
