Experts to Rio Athlete's "Don't put your head under Water" "Viral levels at up to 1.7 million times that which would be considered worrisome in the United States or Europe." "Swimmers or athletes who ingest just three teaspoons of water are almost certain to be infected with viruses that can cause stomach and respiratory illnesses..." "It's been decades and I see no improvement." local Rio activist. The IOC had to have known all this when they approved the bid. This is way overblown -- they'll be fine ...

I'm hoping an alternate (Summer) World Games starts up and supplants the Olympics. They would run much leaner using only a few rotating world sites where there is already plenty of existing infrastructure. Los Angeles would be a good location in the US due to weather and size. Other possible locations might be London, Tokyo, and Sydney. They had that. It was called the Goodwill Games. Nobody cared about it because it wasn't the Olympics. Trivia: The 1994 Goodwill Games was the first major international event to include beach volleyball.

Apparently the Brazilians fired one of their private security contractors for the Games just a few days ago. Yeah, didn't come through. Same thing happened in London.

Yeah, didn't come through. Same thing happened in London. A slightly less-risky environment in which that could happen, possibly. Really? I'd say London had a much greater chance of a terrorist attack because there are so many people local likely to do so. Brazil doesn't have ISIS / ISIL cells like Western Europe does. It's not like I'm walking through the favelas or hanging out on the beach at night. Rio is just fine. Having been to Brazil a bunch with a spouse who grew up there, it's not that bad. Sensationalized...it's what the press seems to do best these days.
