We saw the same things in Greece. Unless the IOC is prepared to hold the games in countries like the United States, Canada, Germany or China every time, these things can be expected.

IOC is corrupt. The best thing IOC could have done is select a set of countries and rotate them. No more bidding for Olympics. and it reduces costs too because they don't have to build new venues every 2 or 3 years.
My friend's daughter is on the women 8+ rowing boat. The water is toxic. Some got sick after doing a test run this year. Scary stuff.

I'm loving the name of the head of the Australian OC. Kitty Chiller.

I agree with mrad. I get that the IOC wants to promote athletics around the world, but it doesn't make sense to place it in countries that can't begin to cope with holding a major tournament. Honestly it should be USA and Europe (all of it) and China that hand off the Olympics. Russia had their chance with Sochi and failed. If another country can make a justifiable claim that will trump the infrastructure in place in the USA i would love to hear it. we have football stadiums for rugby, basketball stadiums for indoor athletics, world class track and field and swimming facilities. Shoot even if you are in an area I'm sure you can find many colleges that can accomodate better than the nonsense of the past few.

Tokyo, Madrid, or even Chicago would've been epic. Rio is a %*$# show, literally and figuratively.

I hope the Rio Olympics bombs and the fallout exposes further corruption among IOC and Rio officials.

That's not true at all. there are several countries with the finances and the infrastructure, or the ability to build the infrastructure to accommodate the Olympics. Germany, France, England, Canada, China, Australia, a few oil rich middle eastern ones, provided the heat can be factored in.
What does not exist is the political or public will to commit the resources. The Olympics is trending like all sports, an ugly excuse to satisfy wealth and greed.

As an American, going to the middle east for the Olympic Games is a big no-no, for safety reasons. London had just host the Olympics, so they are out, and so is Australia, China, and Canada, all have hosted the Olympics not too long ago. Japan is an attractive destination, South Korea as well, all have the finances.

Other than the U.S., Japan is the only other country that can host these types of events, they have state of the art venues, and technology-wise they're far more advance. I must have misunderstood what you said, I thought this post meant Japan and the US, were the only countries who could host the Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee is so corrupt, but who is responsible for keeping them in line? It seemed like they have gotten away with so many. It almost feels like they're untouchable.

Every now and then the IOC's and Soccer's governing bodies do something so sleazy, that they open the door and throw a few of their own out to pay the price.
Their only constraint is what they can get away with. Do not forget much of this is international law, and subject to a thousand interpretations and arguments.
