Is it just me or does anyone else find the Sunderland and Barnett commentary condescending and obnoxious? They speak like they are lecturing the viewer and or athletes at times.

Or maybe salty is a better word.

Sunderland is good. Barnett is sometimes ok but he too often thinks that people care about his 2000 season.

Barnett doesn't really bother me (usually), but doesn't do anything for me, either. Sunderland, on the other hand, is colorful and fun to listen to. Definitely like his commentating, as well as Chris Marlow. I love it when he creates words or uses words from "his own dictionary." ie: "Trinkler": when a serve hits the net and "trinkles" over the next.

I can't get enough of Sunderland and Barnett. They know their stuff and frankly I feel like they announce a volleyball game better than anyone else.

I much prefer the "world league" sunderland and barnett to the "olympic" sunderland and barnett.....much more technical, IMHO...I know this is at the direction of NBC, but it drives me nuts.
to his credit, Barnett called the Canada match as a potential trap for USA, as soon as the schedule got out.

I love that Sunderlund often takes opportunities to explain the sport to non-converts. I watched a women's rugby game and had NO idea what was going on...wish the commentators explained the rules a little.

Since they've been delayed three hours on the West Coast, I haven't watched them. We got some British-sounding guy on the live stream, although it was better than nothing.
I refuse to watch a "live" match three hours late.

I love these two, particularly Sundy. He tells it like it is, doesn't sugar-coat anything. That's what I need in my life. In fact I'd love to hear him commentate my day-to-day life.

The CBC commentators are really random.

I personally have little/no love for any volleyball commentators I've heard so far whether its live stream or the three hour delay "live" commentators. Little or no terminology that any volleyball player actually uses. Saw a nasty jumbo shot that landed on the line in the back corner for a German mens beach pair called a "little rainbow". Highlight-reel type plays that have gone unnoticed. Don't even get me started on their color commentary. Haven't heard such miserable banter since my days of listening to my volleyball illiterate parents explaining a play in my sister's middle school game. OH AND THE REPLAYS!!! Sometimes the commentators would actually catch a good play and say "we've gotta see that one again" and then they either don't show it or show a different part of the play... LAME. It is too bad that Karch has to coach the women otherwise he would be the best commentator out there. He has done a couple NCAA matches that I have actually enjoyed listening to and not felt like I was watching a rules of volleyball instructional video or listening to two people that know little or nothing about the sport fumble about as they aren't even sure what happened on the last point. Hopefully as we move along in the Olympics it will improve as this is a great time to be a fan of the game and theres really no other time you can watch 3 hours of volleyball on national television.

How many of those who responded have commented themselves? Way too many types of people to satisfy. I can't even think of any sports commentators that I love so,it doesn't matter to me while watching unless they don't know the game and make a ton of wrong calls or use another sports terminology to describe volleyball.

Give me the BYU duo. In all my years watching MVB/WVB the are the best. Followed by Scates.
