Alison and Bruno looked to be in trouble in this first set but a couple nice blocks by Alison have it all tied up at 18. They're not looking very dominant in their first two matches though.
Huge win by Jefferson/Cherif over Herrera/Gavira and the Cubans yesterday were great. Fun to see all these close matches with underdogs give the top seeds a run.

why do you get one point for a loss? Isnt that redundant? I do not understand the scoring system for pool play?

Doppler with a great block in the 3rd set on Bruno to go up 9-6
Brazil down 13-11 but get a block and a hit into the net by Horst to tie it up 13-13

Doppler/Horst get the upset in 3 over Alison/Bruno. Another great battle to watch.

Brazil definitely looking shaky early on. I wasn't sure Doppler/Horst would be able to hang on but they squeaked it out. Seeding for the bracket round is going to be interesting with some of the top teams losing games in pool play.

Casey & Jake go down to the AUT team in 2. Like I said, their pool is going to get messy.
Not like the old days, if yo lose one you probably aren't getting 1st, now it's not totally out of reach.
Bruno and Allison in the same boat.

I think it's part of the system to keep teams from blowing off matches. Is that something in pool play? If you only have 4 teams per pool, that is only six games. Winning one game gives you a good chance of moving on so it would seem really strange for someone to forfeit?

My guess is teams that won 2 of their matches would blow off the third, but I might be completely off base here.

Pedro/Evandro loss in three to a very good Canadian team. 16-14 third set and win on a serve that barely rolled over the tape.
