Nicolai with back to back blocks to get up by two 7-5
Follows it up with 2 ace's in a row a bit later to go up 10-6. It's all nicolai here in the 3rd set

Nicolai/Lupo win the 3rd 15-11. Russia got it close a few times, but Nicolai made big plays.

This Russia/Cuba match has been fun to watch. All tied up now at 14-14. Didn't realize Cuba's blocker was only 6'4"
Russia wins the 1st set 22-20. Cuba is a fun team to watch though. Diaz was blasting the serves there. Last one was just barely out

Have not seen the other Cuba games but in this game their defense is not very impressive and the main reason they are successful in their sideout out game is that they often hit very late - often when the ball is almost down again - and the Russian block still has not figured out how to go for these balls.
Is this game similar to their previous showings or are they just getting more tense now that a medal is close?

Wow - have to take everything back about Cuba playing tense. Turning this set 2 arond was amazing.

What a match. Didn't turn out the way I wanted but it was awesome to see nonetheless. The Cubans could try well have another great Olympics in them being 22 and 26
