It's all so obvious. Any US team that had Hooker on it would have been certain to have won the Gold. Couldn't have failed. If only Hooker had been on the team in London, the US would have won the gold there, too.

What about her personal responsibility ? Is Destinee in any way responsible for her fate? If she wanted to win a Gold medal, what should she have done in differently in her life on and off the team? Thank you for this! Destinee failed USAVB when her behavior resulted in her being asked to leave the team. Now, if she did mature, get her crap together, apologize to the powers that be for her role in the mess and then ask to be back on the team, why wasn't she allowed that chance? A few people keep noting Karch's supposed ego and megalomania but where is the proof of that? I don't know how USAVB works internally, but if he was so horrible, couldn't Foluke, Christa, Courtney and Alicia gone to Beal and complained? Is USAVB run so tyrannically that seasoned, dedicated players have no say whatsoever? OR were the old guard glad to see Destinee go? Could her behavior actually have hurt team unity, made some players question whether they wanted to train with the NT, prevented others from developing? Karch's big mistakes were not taking Nicole (recent) and not allowing Logan to at least try his new system (not so recent).

Karch's big mistakes were not taking Nicole (recent) and not allowing Logan to at least try his new system (not so recent). Both Destinee and Karch effectively bet on this result. Destinee bet USAV would either fold and let her back or fail wthout her. Karch bet Destinee would come crawling back or he could win without her. Karch lost. As to the "maybe they would have been worse with her" argument, when is the last time a top 5 player in the world left a team and the team was better off without him/her, no matter how awful a teammate they may have been. Part of being a coach is knowing when to make allowances for stars and when not to. Michael Jordan used to humiliate and even punch teammates. Maybe Destinee went too far and Karch was right, but thats hard to believe now that the team is eliminated. Also I love the idea of complaining to Doug Beal that a coach is being hard on you

Heck we only needed passers we could have set Destiny every play. these posts are hilarious. It's the end of the world usa volleyball didn't get gold!

Should we hold a trial and have people who have known Karch testify whether he has a big ego or not? A. Logan Tom has already said that KK fired her as soon as he got the job. She was disappointed in the way he did it and because she thought the relationship was good. B. Destinee Hooker was also fired soon after he got the job...for supposedly not being a team player. Mind you, no other coach seemed to have a problem with these two. So how many players have to be fired until you say, ok, maybe he's on a power trip??? And don't you know by now that Beal loves Kiraly? He unprecedentedly extended KK's contract through 2020 even before this Olympic. Who does that? And what exactly would the complaining by the players get them?

Things rarely work out well when the team prima donna is the coach. All the ballyhooed team chemistry and a dime will buy each a cup of coffee. Ah, the memories of Rio: "Well, we collapsed at crunch time in the semis but the team chemistry was awesome." The USA gym was not big enough to accommodate the world's #1 side out machine and Karch's larger than life-sized ego. He simply could not be bothered to figure out a way to make it work and was instead allowed to field an inferior roster. Should Karch be fired? Arguably yes, as his celebrity is such a distraction. He certainly didn't provide any inspiration or atmosphere in that last and crucial time out huddle. Yes, winning the World's was nice, but at the end of the day the top seed laid an Olympic egg yet again. There is a reason professional sports teams have the GM making personnel decisions, rather than the head coach. And while I am at it: USA would have been far better off promoting Courtney Thompson to assistant coach and filling the last roster spot with Micha Hancock and her golden left arm... You are a moron

I thought we'd already been told that the player we needed was Plum. This talk about Hooker confuses me.

If you believe the gold medal was lost when Hooker was shown the door, then you must believe this team was completely incapable of winning an Olympic gold medal. We all know that is not true. Would Hooker have been an asset? Yes. Was the World Championship gold medal lost when Hooker left the team? No. I think the teams that showed up for the Rio Olympics could've beaten any teams that showed up at that World Championship. I remember watching that tournament and feeling really sad that the quality of international volleyball was at an all-time low. I still remember that match against Serbia in 2012 when Serbia made over 20-30 service errors.

Now the real question is will Karch take Courtney in 2020? Same reasoning that she was taken here hold up in 2020?

Can someone fill me in on Karch's coaching experience? Is this his first head coaching job?
