I love the way Destinee plays but ultimately she is a professional and should behave like one. The good of the team come first. I would rather have Destinee gone versus several players be miserable playing.

Not the easiest question to answer. However, to those that say it would pretty much have guaranteed a gold, prove it. Destinee, nor the USA have a gold medal, thus she failed when she played, thus no proof she would have made a massive difference. Could she have helped, probably, but she could also have been very destructive to team chemistry too. Hard to lay the gold medal chances on one person who isn't there when the USA came so close to playing the gold medal match, in a tightly contested 5th set.
One could also argue as another did that the USA would have been better off with Courtney being invited as a coach and have a live arm/backup backup setter like a Micha Hancock so that we could get a power lefty jump serve too.

Thank you for this! Destinee failed USAVB when her behavior resulted in her being asked to leave the team. Now, if she did mature, get her crap together, apologize to the powers that be for her role in the mess and then ask to be back on the team, why wasn't she allowed that chance? A few people keep noting Karch's supposed ego and megalomania but where is the proof of that? I don't know how USAVB works internally, but if he was so horrible, couldn't Foluke, Christa, Courtney and Alicia gone to Beal and complained? Is USAVB run so tyrannically that seasoned, dedicated players have no say whatsoever? OR were the old guard glad to see Destinee go? Could her behavior actually have hurt team unity, made some players question whether they wanted to train with the NT, prevented others from developing? Karch's big mistakes were not taking Nicole (recent) and not allowing Logan to at least try his new system (not so recent). It's obvious you don't know how USA Volleyball works. That's why I asked the question, jerk.

Now the real question is will Karch take Courtney in 2020? Same reasoning that she was taken here hold up in 2020? Courtney & Christa have said they are retiring and will not be back for Tokyo. Foluke said she is undecided about 2020.

I dont understand why people are so high on Hooker being on this 2016 team. No matter how great she was in the past, she has not played the way she was leading up to the olympics. Or maybe I am just over her.

Lowe scored 6 of USA's first 9 points against Serbia in the 5th. How many sets went to the outside.. Robo's % had to be horrrrrible...

Sure. He has a long and storied career as a head coach. He first coached Santa Barbara High School to the CIF finals in 2 out of 3 years, winning the championship the third year before leaving to coach UCLA. SBHS was undefeated his last year as coach, dropping something like 3 sets all season. Olmstead still shows up in some records, but everyone knows who the head coach was. He coached UCLA to 3 NCAA championships in 4 years (losing in the final the other year), before moving on to the national scene. Again, some records still list an A. Scates as coach, but it was common knowledge who the coach really was. He then split his time between coaching the USA men to 2 gold medals while also coaching the top beach team in the world. His first experience firing a prima donna came when he had to let Sinjin Smith go to improve his beach team on the way to the first beach gold medal. I think you are already aware of his more recent history. That made me laugh… Ha ha.. made me chuckle too

Or maybe I am just over her. Probably just over her because I'm sure she would have been back into top notch shape with the practice of USA volleyball. However, having a baby is more importanter...

Jordan and Foluke have mentioned in multiple interviews/articles that it was a difficult decision to return after the 2012 experience. Both were indicating the team dynamics were a major issue they had. Foluke even mentioned how nice it was not having players complaining that their not being set being the reason a USA timeout was needed.
I really don't think Larson or Akinradewo would have been on the 2016 team if not for the changes that were made following the 2012 games.
So would the Hooker upgrade at Opp have more than offset the downgrade to MB/OH without Akinradewo/Larson?

It was a vid clip of a pre-Olympics interview about her decision to return after 2012. NBCSports app or YouTube but don't remember.

Not a fan of Kim Hill or Robinson. Larson was okay. We need more terminal outsides. Our middles are two of the best. Carlini and Hancock 2020!

Hooker's in the wrong sport. If she was playing soccer, she'd only get a slap on the wrist for behavior issues.

I'm a big fan of Hooker and believe having her at her best could have vastly improved our chances of gold in Rio. But come on now. She didn't help her case. During this last quad, she never showed her top form, had two kids (which is fine but untimely to give birth right before Rio), she got injured a lot (not her fault), had lots of personal drama, and didn't have the favor of her coach and teammates (many of whom are vastly talented, hard working and worthy of her respect). Perhaps not having Hooker blew our best chance at Olympic gold, but the fault at least equally lies with Hooker. I hope she returns in this new quad but we'll see if her legs hold up. Her strengths are so jump oriented and that's not favorable as one ages.

She was in the best form of her life in the Korean league couple years ago and if she were on the team as she should've been she could've timed her second pregnancy after Rio.
