I knew that when I criticized Lindsey's conditioning that I would hear from you guys (Gorf & (R)uffda).) Sorry, I respect you guys a lot, but just look at her face. Too much subcutaneous fat. I might point out other volleyball players who, despite years of H. S. and College volleyball, are fat. Michelle Quan (UCLA and USPV.) Tell me Elaina Oden wasn't VERY HEAVY, even when she was on the National Team in 1992. Other stocky players who WERE in shape include 6' setter Carolyn Becker of the 1984 Olympic Team and current player, 6' 3" Heather Bown. Other SHORT stocky players who were in shape include former USC and current beach player Tracy Lindquist and MVP of the recent USA Nationals Nicole Davis. I know that this is a touchy subject, calling a player fat, but, hey, it's OK to say that a player isn't any good (or IS very good,) should be on The National Team (or SHOULDN'T be on The National Team,) ect. So if we can say that a player is crummy or great, we should also be able to say that a player is in crummy shape or great shape. We can also say that a former National Team Coach is psycotic, as one poster said on this very thread! Oh, that was me........ Of course, I might just be having a crummy day. Hell, having "subcutaneous fat" on her face isn't an authoratative assessment of her overall level of fitness. Was Elaina Oden a good and effective player for UOP and the national team? To some extent you're arguing against yourself.

>-(Gorf)-<[} link=board=general&thread=1092813233&start=109#7 date=1092894835] You don't think Mick's connection with the national team had anything at all to do with Jerrit's ability to contact those players that were involved with the various youth, A2, and other national teams? Sigh. Yes, Micks' status as National Team coach was a major factor in Jerrits' recruiting, but the recruits didn't know ANYTHING about him. Compare it with getting a BIG job offer from a MAJOR corporation with a BIG NAME CEO. You get big money and big status until Ken Lay gets caught. See, you didn't know that he was a liar, a thief and a crook until AFTER you got the job.

-Gorf/Ruffda = pretty good insight on volleyball issues. Still completely clueless on politics. LOL. I don't care what you say. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but having Bush as president for another 4 year could really hurt me. Mixing metaphors can be fun?

Actually, many of those recruits knew alot about Haley, having spent their summers with the USA development programs while Haley was still the National Team coach.

They also didn't truly know anything about Jerritt, whom many people report is a total jerk and liar (as well). I haven't seen Jerritt's success as a recruiter continue now that he's separated from Haley. The past couple of years he seems to keep having even players that he's recruited to Texas himself decide to leave the program before graduation. Haley, on the other hand appears to still be getting very good recruits at USC. I didn't hear stories of the players from USC making complaints about Mick the past couple of years after winning national championsips.

I still remember the rollshot interview of Gretchen Maurer. SC was pursuing her and she committed to Washingston. She told her decision to Elliot over the phone and he was shouting at her and told her that she make a very big mistake.

He actually did quite well in recruiting. His 2003 class is ranked second. It is his development of the players that is in doubt, not to mention the players and assistant coaches that left the team Those rankings are made based on how well those players did in high school and club volleyball not on how well they've actually played at a collegiate level. From what I've seen since Jerritt took over at Texas his teams have performed well under expectations. It could certainly be argued that it is his ability to develop players, however, how do you then explain his success at USC in getting back to back Pac-10 coach of the year awards? Or are the recruits he's getting at Texas simply not at the same level as the recruits he's been given the credit for getting at USC?

Body fat percentage measurements are NOT taken by simply looking at someone's face. Bring out the calipers and measure areas of her entire body for fat or submerse her in a tank as the most effective measurement. Then tell me she's out of shape or overweight.

When do we get together to do this? But, yes, you're right. I don't have the facts. (But, neither do you.) These are just opinions based on appearences.

You also brought Jerritt into the conversation and made comments about Mick in terms of the players not knowing anything about him that are equally associated with Jerritt. Plus, as was pointing out by SoBB those recruits prob ably spent more time around Mick with the national team development programs than they would have been allowed to spend with Jerritt (or other USC staff) by NCAA regulations on recruiting visits and conversations.
