How the heck can Gaskin break into the first 6 flights? There's too much existing talent plus the addition of Julia Scoles and Emily Maglio, not to mention some of the indoor players like Casey Castillo, who was supposedly close to making one of the flights in the past.

Hawai'i wins the first match against Cal Poly 4-1, per the Hawai'i beach volleyball twitter. The flights and scores are unknown. Went down to Queen's at about 1:30 and saw Ozee/Forbes, Homuyan/Rossi and Scole and Napolean. If the score was 4-1, I am assuming the lost was at the flight where Scoles and Napolean played at. Right in front of me. I'm not sure if they were playing CP's top pair or not .I know its only exhibition but I don't like the Scoles/Napolean pair. Not enough experience in that pair. I hope this is kind of Julia's match to get her butterflies out. She was struggling with ball control. Trap set Pani on at least two underhanded bump. One flew over for a free ball for CP. Got aces a couple of times and had a foot fault serving. she also bumped a few balls over on two when she could have set a high set and give Pani time to get off the sand and attack. She did show some flashes with her power hits and a couple of blocks but I think she will need a lot of work to reach to top flights. Maybe starting her at the mid flight would be better. Less pressure and she is not going to be facing the other teams top pair. Our top pairs should be Mags/partner, Martin/partner. Ozee/partner and then maybe Scoles/partner. Sofia Rossi looked good. However not sure the caliber of her opponent but she and Ari seems to have good chemistry.

Bows lost the second duel 4-2, most likely switched all the pairs up or the order.
Tomorrow they play the pairs tournament between the three schools and the finals is said to be televised on OC16 at 3 PM HT

Same pairs but different order in second match. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
1st match (3 mauka to makai courts) Huddleston Loker Martin Dreuws Hurkett Stevens
Scoles Napoleon Homayun Russo Ozee Forbes
2nd match Scoles Napoleon Martin Dreuws Hurkett Stevens
Huddleston Loker Homayun Russo Ozee Forbes
Scoles Napoleon lost twice and need work. Scoles is powerful and physical and also still transitioning. I was dubious about splitting Homayun and Ozee, but I like the current pairs. I like Forbes’s trickiness (a little like Speiler). Looking forward to spring! Who’s going to pair with Mags?

Tough break for Morgan and Paige. Looks like the last two sets went to overtime so that must have been a real battle. Super glad Scoles/Napoleon won. Hope this will catapult them to better things. High on both but was concerned and still a little concern about the inexperienced of both. UC Davis is a brand new team so it’s still hard to tell how good the win against them.

Scoles Napoleon is the only UH team left, beating CP’s 3/4 in straight sets in the quarters. They look much better today! They’re playing CP’s 4/6 in the semis, so they probably have a good chance of making it to the finals.

BTW....how come Amy and Presley are not playing?

They’re both at the beach. Neither look injured (unlike a couple of other Bows), so dunno why they didn’t play. Btw, Scoles is wearing Forbes number today.

Interestingly, Martin was swinging lefty.

Interestingly, Martin was swinging lefty. She may still be recovering from her shoulder surgery I'm guessing. Did she swing lefty yesterday?

Maybe Scoles is superstitious...LOL #31 did not do her good yesterday so she is wearing #32 today. It can't be Forbes jersey though. Forbes is like 5-4 while Julia is 6-1.
