Jones/Gordon defeat Scoles/Napoleon 28-25 in a one set final.
Scoles is great offensively, she handled a lot of tough sets and placed them well. She has a lot of power which is a fantastic thing to see if you haven't watched her indoors. My only thing I see her improving on is off blocker defense and passing. Her passing was good enough but a lot of her passes seemed to be off the net, granted Cal Poly served tough. IMHO Napoleon should not be playing as a blocker. I can see it at the lower pairs but if she plays at the higher pairs then we won't win many there. She is aggressive but they lost a lot of points that way.

Yesterday, her sets were way too tight. I guess she is trying to compensate from yesterday and trying not to pass it too tight.

You got to win by three now or there was a clock and it ended up 28-25 after the time ran out? Almost 100% of volleyball matches end after you get a two points lead.

This matters in terms of pairings and experience to the new blood. Hawai'i will be ready come season time. When all the pieces are here, Hawai'i will be very good.

I love our players, but I am a little worried we don't have the same level of depth or experience to compete with the top teams. We are adding Maglio, but will still need at least one or two impact players IMO (Poly will be adding TVW, AVW, and a few others from their indoor team - they will be a lot stronger than what we saw this weekend). UCLA has so much depth and USC is also looking deep this year. Pepperdine returns a lot of starters as well. I like our blockers in Mags, Martin, and Ozee and I can see Scoles, Loker, and Rossi in the mix. Which of our defenders can step into the top flights? Homayun has played at the #4 flight for two seasons, Dreeuws at #5, and Huddleston mainly at #6. I think they are all good players, but it's a whole other level in the top two flights. Homayun is the most experienced. What players were the most impressive this past weekend? There's been a lot of discussion about Scoles. I think she is a very physical player who will improve greatly over the next few months. I think she will be like a Carly Kan with the drive to succeed and get better. What about Loker? Is she as good as Monkhouse? I think Rossi, might be a surprise player. Napolean still needs to focus on mainly defending and I hope her blocking this weekend was situational and not by design. Can Granato or Gaskin make it into the top flights (Pretty sure Castillo won't be playing)? I am still hoping there is at least one or two more impact players by January, otherwise this team will have to work very hard and have the drive to compete with the best.

Feeling some impact graduate transfers are just waiting for the indoor season to be over before they make any transition to the beach especially those P5 teams that dont have BVB programs.

Did Granato confirm she was playing beach? Also, I thought Castillo would be the most likely to play beach, but I guess I was wrong. Also, I believe in the UH vs. UCI match, they mentioned that Kekauoha was looking to play beach for a season. Do you think she will consider Hawaii, and will she maybe make an impact?

I'd like to see Noreen play beach, she has the diversity of skill sets...she can set, block, attack, dig, pass, serve. Would be interesting

She is thinking of playing beach but will probably confirm after indoor is finished. Castillo was considering but decided against playing. Kekauoha would be great! Isn't she applying for a medical redshirt though? I'm sure it depends on how many games she played, but if she is injured, will she be ready for beach volleyball in January? I think good indoor players can transition quickly and do well on the beach if they really work hard and have the drive to learn the game (e.g. Horton and Luke FSU).

Would be interesting She was playing for the team at the #4 and #5 flights until Robyn wanted her to concentrate on indoor. Still, you never know if she decides to play anyway this season. If she and Mags played together, maybe she would get an AA this year!

hawaiiathletics.com/schedule.aspx?path=wsvb2019 Schedule is out! A good variety of teams on there, but other than the East Meets West Challenge, there are no east coast teams on it which can hurt our chances with an at-large especially after last season's issue. Interesting notes as the Big West Tournament will be Malibu, guess CSUN is the host and that was the best closest venue possible. Also there is a chance we could play Washington and Nebraska three times each based on the tournament schedules. It's hard to say where we will be, we do have a lot of talent but we lost a lot as well. I would say Hawaii, Pepperdine, USC are still tough teams but not sure where we stand as UCLA is the top team. Long Beach State and Cal Poly will be up there as well.

Saw on Scoles’ IG that Gaskin “made the switch”. They looked like they paired up on a game that i don’t know anything about. Could be just a friendly match. Don’t know if it confirms Gaskin joining sandbows.

Don’t know if it confirms Gaskin joining sandbows. They kept on mentioning in the last couple games, or I remember hearing it on one of the broadcasts that Gaskin was going to play beach in the Spring, so I think this may confirm it. Not sure how well she will be able to transition, but best case scenario, she could maybe keep things competitive!
