Anyone who thinks that Stanford cannot be beat this week should review the Louisville Texas match. Texas was clearly superior in resume, head to head matchups, etc. There is no metric for heart. Louisville played with more and, even when outclassed badly in the third and fourth sets found a way to steady the ship in a minor comeback late in the fourth.
The fifth could have been anyone's.
I don't think we can beat a Stanford if Plummer is hitting 500 and the team as well. There is no pressure on MN. Stanford has a repeat ring around the collar.
MN will have to click on all cylinders: their service pressure in Austin and a glimmer of greatness from Samedy (back row attacks and terminations with range and authority) plus Rollins increasing confidence to win points can really help if sustained.
First contacts will be everything. Can we play in system to isolate the Cardinal MBs? Can we serve such that the Cardinal MBs don't get 19 kills in three sets with no errors and 700+ hitting %?

Observation from a lurker who reads all Gopher match threads:
I thought Nebraska fans were the most obnoxious fans. Until this week.
Gahhhhhh! I would love nothing more than to see to the Gophers triumph over Stanford.

I would love nothing more than to see to the Gophers triumph over Stanford. Which Stanford posters do you think are obnoxious? I'm biased so would like feedback. To me, the ppl most vocal about Stanford winning aren't Stanford fans. Most seem to be fans of other B1G teams (who are probably kind of trolling) but I could be missing something. |

As a Midwesterner, I think BIG fans tend to both admire and detest other programs w/in the BIG, which causes mixed emotions. So it's easier to keep a separate peace by aiming their frustrations at the PAC 12 glamor programs like UCLA & Stanford. It's a choice: fear the enemy from within or the enemy from without. |

Those two have been my main points I’ve been working on ---she also needed McCutcheon and her teammates to believe she could help get them to Pittsburgh this season. “In practice having to work harder on my skill — that’s what helped,” she said. “Hugh coaching me and keeping me consistent. My teammates also encouraged me to keep fighting because it’s hard. It really is hard.” |
