I think terraflex looks so much better than wood, it's also way more fun to play on. I wish Stanford had terraflex Depends upon the wood. I think wood looks really sharp anywhere the floor is a volleyball-only floor. Teraflex looks great in some places, but it can also be hit or miss. More of a matte finish, so may not pop quite like a wood floor can. One thing I don't like about wood is that if you have a giant video board you can really see the lighting differences on the wood floor when the picture changes on the board. It can be fairly dramatic if you have a massive scoreboard. I have no knowledge of the quality of play on one surface versus another. I've never been on Taraflex Get rid of video board. Problem solved. And get off my lawn.

Video board is hit or miss. Show good replays, I like it. Keep the stats and score correctly, I like that. All of the other goofy content I would rather not see.

So why does't Stanford have a terraflex floor? I don't know. Stanford and penn state, 2 most storied programs of all time both have wood. Florida also has wood and they are up their in all time success. They also spend a whole lot of money on their sports teams. Aside from the initial cost of $25-50,000, there are ongoing labor expenses every time the floor is put down or taken up. There also has to be a place to store the floor pieces when not using it.

***Edited to provide clarity***
I don't really care that much about the look, color and design of the floor... It reminds of one time when a kids' team was talking about weather to get matching sweats and backpacks and other crap, and a dad in the room who was a college coach was asked what he thought. His response was "I've never seen a backpack win a game." Same for the floors, a lot of fluff.
I do prefer a good suspended wood floor when I play because it's easier on the joints and I don't care about all the lines, blah blah blah. I really don't like all the roll out stuff; it's expensive and someday it's going to end up in a landfill taking up space and putting off who knows what chemicals as it degrades.

So curmudgeonly! It's a big deal for schools to have their own unique design on the floor, and I think it does appeal to the students. They have to use tape to mark off the volleyball court, though, but you don't hear the players complaining about it. The players don't have to watch it, though. I have always thought Oregon's floor was the most heinous thing this side of Boise State's blue football field. What a nightmare. Oregon's floor is actually my favorite. However, it seems pretty polarizing: people either love it or hate it.

I hate it because it's so busy; but I don't have to look at it much, & as long as Oregon Likes it; that's all that really matters! GO HUSKERS

You don't care much about the floor, except that you have a preference for a suspended wood floor. Preference sounds a lot like caring. As for the ecology of wood vs. synthetic, apparently you're never been around the chemicals used to refinish wood courts once or twice a year. Hawaii had the first Terraflex and it has not been replaced yet. Not aware of any that have worn out.

Not a volleyball floor...but I remember Colorado having a hideously busy basketball arena floor back in the 90s.

And of course I've been around the chemicals, they suck. I wasn't thinking that the floors would wear out, I was thinking folks would want new designs. And really, whatever. When I'm watching, I don't care much about the floor. When I'm playing, I like suspended wood. I HATE the floors we play on at USAV nationals. Plastic tiles on concrete floors suck.

It's time for you to find out @firstjedi Maybe I will install it in my home :) There's even flex in the name. Can you handle it? With respect to Oregon, I'm guessing it looks cool in person. But partial views in TV it looks like vomit. When I see the whole floor it looks better.

Sorry if it's already been mentioned, but the Marquette floor looks close to perfect.

Yawn. (I will admit it looked good on TV, though.)

There are some wooden ones. They don't have to be taraflex. PSU and Wisconsin come to mind. I can't remember if IL also wood. Illinois does have a taraflex court. I think it looks sharp. The light up press box between the benches can be pretty bright and reflects off the surface, but usually not too badly.
