UCLA has the ability to beat Wisconsin and the ability to lose to Notre Dame, in about equal measures. I would not be surprised to see UCLA and USC fall real early

UCLA has some strong upside, but they're pretty vulnerable- they've traditionally been a great ball handling team and this year's really isn't. They've been better since they went to a 6-2, adding RS Lexi Hadrych, who's been very productive. They have two miniature outsides- RS Jenny Mosser (5'11") hasn't been very effective, but 5'10" (maybe) Savvy Simo has been a revelation as a hitter, and Mac May is one of the best. They can be dangerous, but their passing is iffy as is floor defense. The block is also iffy, as is the setting- both the block and the passing were really on in the Stanford match; I don't know what was with Stanford, though, they really didn't play well. But UCLA can be very dangerous when everything's working.

I watched part of the Stanford/UCLA match last evening. UCLA dug A LOT of balls...but then seemed to give Stanford back a bunch of free balls...their offense didn't seem like much.
So, they just wait for the other team to make an error? On the right night, with a couple of Badgers, that could be a good strategy. But I'm not sure that would win them a match.

Is Mosser still seeing playing time at UCLA or did they finally pull her? She has been largely ineffective this year from what I have seen. Mosser is playing 3 rotations at Opposite, in a 6-2. They don't have another healthy pin hitter who can replace her, unless they switched to a 5-1.

Those digs really had more to do with the block , which Stanford just couldn't seem to get by.

Illinois State is no slouch, they beat Illinois early in the season. They make me nervous. Just take care of business Badgers. That was Illinois' first match without Prince. A lot of adjustments going on in that match. Tamas played 14 players trying to see what would work. Plus Illinois averaged 3 service errors per set. That said, ISU did beat them in 4 so the talent is there.

You contradict yourself. Make up your mind. If Mac May and company play well they win the subregional, on the other hand I would not be surprised if they lose their first match.

You contradict yourself. Make up your mind. If Mac May and company play well they win the subregional, on the other hand I would not be surprised if they lose their first match. So.....UCLA might win. But, they might lose. Noted. If Mac May & Co. play well, then they better hope Wisconsin doesn't. Because Wisconsin is the better team. They'll have to play below their best for another team to take this

If they play well May and Simo are something Wisconsin has not really seen this season.

I went to shhhhhhh's All-American post and counted saomething like 13 pins/middles Wisconsin has faced thusfar, including something like 5 1st teamers. Wisconsin has seen an awful lot of firepower throughout the season, including the one who I think should be NPOY (Pressley).
Now, Wisconsin's success against the likes of Pressley and Bajema wasn't great. I am not even arguing with your pick, as I think it'll be a tough match for Wisconsin. But, I think it is flatly absurd to suggest they'll see something they haven't seen yet. Maybe the powder blue jerseys will be a new sight. But, the women in those jerseys won't be anything better than they have already had to face.
Plus, it isn't like Wisconsin can't counter with things UCLA hasn't seen. There aren't a lot of Dana Rettkes running around, afterall.
