USports W VB gets back at it this weekend, after taking December off for Winter Break. They play out the remaining 2/3 of their regular season in January and February. Then March Madness ensues with Conference Tourneys, followed by a National Tournament that takes us into late March. Hey, that's right around when NCAA Spring Scrimmages start up. So pick a team, preferably one that offers free live streams on their website, and follow along throughout the rest of the winter.
In the Autumn session the standings began to take shape.
Canada West Trinity Western and Mount Royal are tied for the lead in the early going at 11-1. Thompson Rivers is nipping at their heels at 9-3. MacEwan and Saskatchewan are both sitting at 8-4. Alberta is the only other team over .500 at 7-5.
Ontario (OUA)
East Division: Ryerson and Toronto are tied atop the ladder at 8-1. Queen's is 5-3, and York is 5-4. The rest of the East is off to a pretty rocky start.
West Division: Brock leads the way at 7-2, with Western right in their back pocket at 7-3. No one else in the West is over .500 at the moment.
Quebec (RSEQ*)
Just like Football, Laval and Montreal are the front runners at 8-3. UQAM is 7-4, and Sherbrook is 6-5.
Atlantic (AUS)
Dalhousie is off to the races at 8-0. St Mary's is quite a ways behind them at 6-3. Acadia is the only other team over .500 at 5-4.
*RSEQ is the only Conference where there might be a language barrier if your French isn't quite up to snuff. Ottawa would of course be an exception, as the Nation's Capital. There might be another Anglophone institution in the mix, but I cannot recall which one off of the top of my head.

you can't fool me, "Trent" and "Brock" aren't colleges, they're just a couple of stoners who wandered into the gym and the other volleyball teams are claiming countable wins for hitting them with the ball in warmups.
same goes for "Brandon" in Canada West, come to think of it.

Hard to pick a winner. Watched only the replays of the Ryerson vs. Toronto matches so far.

Canada West was back at it last weekend, and the other three conferences are jumping back into the mix this weekend.
Any sleepers? Teams that maybe had injuries in the fall, but got healthy over the holidays?

Canada West is usually the powerhouse with either ALBERTA, UBC or Calgary leading the way. This year it seems like Mount Royal, Trinity Western (only consistent team from last to this year) are set to dominate with Saskatchewan and Macewan also having stronger teams. I feel like this year we will see a shakeup in the works. UBC lost Kyra Van Ryk and is just not the same without her, Calgary lost Pex and TNasty to late injury at the end of last season and although they are hosting nationals they would probably not qualify otherwise. ALBERTA has lots of returning players with a new”ish” setter but White is still there to swing from the right. They always seem to peak at the end of the season so I don’t discount them.

Trinity is playing Mount Royal tonight and tomorrow. That could easily be a preview of the Canada West final. If Holness is healthy Mount Royal's middles are dominant. UBC has had some key players missing due to injury/travel. If Furlan and Davis are back and healthy don't count them out.

Olivia Furlan is not playing this year I hear, and not sure about Davis. Your right though these could be the top 2 teams in this years Canada West. Dholi has come a long way - she is so much fun to watch leaping out of the gym.

My Stangs went on the road and knocked the Ryerson Rams out of their first place tie with Toronto. Five setter.

Trinity beat MRU 3-0 from the box score it looked kinda ugly from both sides 🤪 Macewan swept UBC and it looks like Olivia is back playing, as is Tessa Davis.

Guess that didn't settle much as MRU came back and beat Trinity on Saturday. Yes Furlan and Davis are both back for UBC. Didn't seem to help much against MacEwan.

Macewan has a roster chock full of 5th year players, they have a lot of experience between them. Even their setter is a 4th year but has been sidelined with multiple injuries so she is only in her 2nd year of Elegibility I believe. If ever Macewan is going to make a run for it, it is this year. I watched the Trinity MRU game on Saturday and the team that could actually serve receive some of the time won. No lack of fire power on either side if you can get the ball to the setter.

I got to watch Dalhousie this weekend, I've been living away for the last year and saw them play in Halifax against Memorial (I'm a Memorial Alumni so I went to watch), and after having watched plenty of CanWest and OUA ball, I think if there was ever a year for Dalhousie to win, this is the year. They are super balanced, Courtney Baker is setting lights out (I think she may be the best varsity setter in the country this year, played NextGen this past summer and the summer before played with the Senior A National team for a bit) and their defense has improved drastically. I will be shocked if the USport final isn't Macewan and Dalhousie.

Meh - I have not seen Dalhousie play this year, but I am sure they will be strong with Baker leading the team. Macewan may or may not make it, you never know with them. I think more likely it will be Mount Royal or Trinity that will be winning Canada West.

So - was pretty hyped on Mount Royal to do well this year, but just found out Maddi Marshal is out with a knee - she is a transfer from NCAA Montana and is contributing nicely on the Left Side. Fingers crossed that it is not as bad as it looked on video. She has a very well rounded game
