My club sent 1 team down, 10 players, 4 coaches and 10 parents, zero cases and in fact they all felt very safe at event. Director stated he wished they would of sent more teams to play... I ran across this on page 5. What ever happened to the poor souls who played volleyball in Orlando? If there was any negative news I’m guessing there would be an hourly update.....

Who do you think would be providing this negative news? Do you think AAU would promote any cases they were informed about? Do you think clubs or families that chose to attend would report that they willing went and then caught the virus? My guess is they would be more likely to be embarrassed and keep it quiet than to attempt to make a big deal out of it to warn others against doing what they did. No news is not necessarily good news, it's just no news.

Could not disagree more....this would be ALL over the place if this event caused outbreaks! Who would have told people? The people who got sick who want to sue AAU. Right? Isn’t liability the reason we’re shutting everything down?

The event itself did not get much coverage in the first place despite the chaos that was Florida at the time. I am not so sure much media outside of the local coverage even knew it was happening. So media may not know to tie things back to the event.
I do know of a couple of cases where athletes tested positive upon returning home. My guess there are more...

I believe the pre-event news made national media. If there was an outbreak because of it, they would have been all over it.

Not if no one who got it from the event told anyone who is part of the "media." People don't like being told they're stupid. If someone decided to attend AAUs and then caught COVID, there would be a lot of people calling that person stupid. So yeah, I don't think anyone is in a hurry to spread the news.

If there were large outbreaks from this event, it would have been traced back to this tournament. Just like all other outbreaks being traced back to "large gatherings". You don't have to announce it to the world; plenty of folks out there ready to do the dirty work to find these things out.

Research the success of contact tracing. Not good. If 4 positive cases were id'd on VT, I think there are many more unreported. But whatever. It happened it finished with no one forfeiting, so good for that I guess but advertising success and zero or near zero cases when there has been no responsibilty to report positives is ignorant at best.

In summary:
If there are ANY reported cases as a result of this tournament - AAU did a horrible job and everyone involved in this tournament is irresponsible, greedy, and doesn't care about anyone but themselves If there are NO reported cases as a result of this tournament - we are being lied to and there is a cover-up. Actually hundreds, if not thousands, of people actually HAVE contracted Covid and died as a result of this tournament and AAU did a horrible job and everyone involved in this tournament is irresponsible, greedy, and doesn't care about anyone but themselves
Now I understand.
To me it looks like they did a fine job running the tournament for the size it was and should probably be used as an example moving forward of how to do it again if necessary.

Digging up a thread that hasn't been posted on since 8/4 and adding zero new/relevant information to the topic of it....you guys all realize that there are other online forums specifically dedicated to politics, where you can continue to argue and continue to post the same things over and over in every thread, right? You're dead spot-on; unfortunately, expect the same (same usual suspects) for 5 mths.

You do realize this is conversation is about the result of a volleyball event, right? Of ALL the threads on here that have become hyper-political, this isn't the one. This is one talking about the real affects of hosting a tournament right now.
