This would've been a great group for the hourglass twist. Not that I want the twist back, but the tribes were split evenly and Tiffany would've had to choose between saving herself or saving pretty much everyone she was aligned with. I would've liked to see it play out instead of the tribes offering up the people they were most okay with losing. 🥱
Some things I found amusing: *Q acting like Aubry is such a deep-cut favorite Survivor player. She was one of the most visible players in the 30s! *Venus causing chaos on the island and online! (Our girl is coming for the whole cast on Twitter.) *Venus smirking all tribal council. You're right, bbg, she needs at least the jury so we can have her reactions.
I liked the idea of voting out Charlie, but Venus had the wrong pitch for that group. Maybe if she pointed out how if Siga was so tight, why vote out the person they're willing to lose? That being said, I am now thinking what Taylor Swift lyric I would add to the parchment if I was voting out Charlie (that wasn't going to cause copyright issues). So far, I've landed on "goodbye goodbye goodbye" and a Swiftie could finish it.

Also, my parents have started watching Deal Or No Deal Island, and they don't like Boston Rob because he's too sneaky.

So far, I've landed on "goodbye goodbye goodbye" and a Swiftie could finish it. Venus is an absolute icon. Even though it was poor gameplay on her part, it was hilarious that she tried to break Shii Ann's land speed record for fastest flip at the merge. Like she couldn't at least wait to see the result of the challenge to see if she had safety or not first? Whatever, it's great TV. And this actually ended up working out for her in this vote because the powers that be decided that she wasn't really a threat that needed to be taken out. I'm worried about the split tribal next week, but if she survives that round, she could have zero vote finalist written all over her. Or at the very least, we get her jury reactions. As for the hourglass, I don't want that to come back, as it resulted in me losing my girl Sydney. Plus, it's fundamentally pretty unfair. That being said, "earn the merge" is so played out in general. It also damages the dynamics of the merge episode, which is almost always good, even in the worst seasons. They should just go back to a traditional merge. It feels like Jeff tried to fix something that isn't broken. It's not quite as bad as him getting rid of the far superior original Final Tribal Council format in favor of the open forum discussion that they have now, but still. If they keep doing this, I would at least like to see an individual immunity challenge among the losers that the hourglass seasons had. I don't like that you're at the mercy of a rock draw to determine teams. Edit: As for Charlie and Taylor Swift, I feel like "Blank Space" is the obvious choice here. Like maybe: "Your Name: Charlie".

Oh yeah, the hourglass 100% sucks. That 41 episode where they left it on a cliffhanger like "what is Erica gonna possibly choose?" is one of the worst endings on the show. But if there was ever an interesting dynamic for it, last night would've been it imho. They really need to do something new with the merge. Having the same thing for 6 seasons straight, followed by the split tribal is not good TV. At this point, the players are expecting it and are playing safe because of it. I also hate that both the earn the merge and split tribal are done by rock draw. At the very least, they should do a schoolyard pick for the earn the merge. See how people draw the lines, who gets picked last, and make the players show their cards some. Also, I agree Venus is an icon! I really don't want to see her as an easy boot next week because she's the type of player the show needs to mix up the game. It's supposed to be a social experiment, not a study in rock draws!

A rock draw for the two captains is fine. Schoolyard picks in general are nearly always good TV. I don't really like Gabon in general, but the schoolyard pick for the swap where they literally had the players on platforms based on how valuable their original tribes thought they were (I think it was a secret vote, but I don't remember) was incredible.

I still don't love the split tribal right after the merge, especially when one person gets left out of the jury. But at least the splits tonight had interesting tribal dynamics. For a second, I thought Q was going to get a Drew Christie type ousting. Not tonight, but I feel like it's coming.
Kenzie is giving winner vibes to me. All the talk pre-merge about how she was a threat, now all this talk about what a good person she is, especially moments (commending her at tribal) that didn’t need to be in the show. Or maybe it's too obvious for her to be the winner. I do think she and Tiff go far.
I am already tired of hearing about the 6 alliance. Hopefully they're done with that now (or my fear is Charlie comes in and it's just a new 6). I don't dislike all the players in that alliance, just the ones who won't stop talking about it.
Lastly, LOL at Venus taking credit for Tevin's move. She's got the right ideas imho, but nowhere near enough social capital to pull them off. And she at least made the jury!!

Good episode for Kenzie, though I haven't forgotten that she said that Randen's medivac was her first "win." Maybe the editors didn't realize how tone-deaf it is to leave something like that in for your winner (completely unnecessary). Then again, it's not like Dee was portrayed in the most likable way all the time last season either. I guess we'll see. I don't have a strong feel on the winner at this point. Overall, it was a good episode. I dislike the split tribals nearly as much as "earn the merge," but the votes were pretty interesting this time as you said. And 100% on Venus making the jury. We're either going to get some hopefully fantastic jury reactions or Venus trying to explain her game and try (likely in vain) to persuade the jury to vote for her at Final Tribal Council.

We're either going to get some hopefully fantastic jury reactions or Venus trying to explain her game and try (likely in vain) to persuade the jury to vote for her at Final Tribal Council. Yeah, I had the same thought re: the med evac. But the show also pushed it as being inspirational (which I found kind of gross), so I don't know if they see it as a bad moment. A few seasons ago, Rob Cesternino described the "earn the merge" and split tribals as rebranded tribe swaps, and that perspective warmed me up to them a little bit, but I still wish they just did the tribe swaps instead. I think there are bigger stakes when you don't know the other tribe's dynamics. Venus is giving 0 vote finalist to me, and I keep thinking of Jeff's opening speech about how some people have no chance of winning the game even from the start.
Also, side note: in Jelinksy's exit interviews, he kept saying how everyone on the island called him a legend and he sounded delusional. But I take it back now! A Jeff shoutout to him AND the episode was titled "Episode Several." Iconic.

And I don't think another first boot (in a season with no re-entry mechanic--so no Natalie Anderson or Reem) has ever had the impact later on in the same season that Jelinsky has. I now completely believe his claim that the other players nearly named the merge tribe after him. He and Zane Knight need to be brought back for a first boot/legend captains season.

if Venus gets to the final by being the shield i’d totally vote for her.

if Venus gets to the final by being the shield i’d totally vote for her. Is Venus a shield? I'd love for her to win, but I just don't see it happening. She reminds me a lot of Eliza in Vanuatu who had absolutely zero chance to win the game against anyone except maybe Twila, though I think she loses that one as well. Venus is still an icon either way.

Her game play is a bit too overt for me. At first it felt like her original tribe disliked her because she’s “pretty”. She’s a shield in the sense that her enemies think she’s so unlikable she won’t win jury votes in the end so we can wait to get her out/ she has no allies so there’s always a stronger target than her but enough discourse and animosity to mislead where the actual votes are going. I think she could’ve played the soda vote accusation smarter but i also tire of kumbaya bs. My faves are Tim and weirdly Liz. Don’t really like Tevin or Soda. I enjoy Q’s gameplay but his bedside manner is going to get him voted out. if Venus gets to the final by being the shield i’d totally vote for her. Is Venus a shield? There have been winners who the other finalists thought wouldn't get votes but found out the hard way that they were wrong like Sandra in Heroes v. Villains and Gabler in 43. But I think the other players have the right read on Venus. I'm with you on Chaos Q. The guy is good TV, but he's so erratic that I think Tiff and Kenzie will cut him at some point.

So I just looked up the cast list for The Challenge Season 40, and it is loaded. Maybe their best cast ever. Michele will be representing Survivor. One note is that list has 39 players, but there are actually 40. Jordan, who is arguably the GOAT of The Challenge, joined a day later due to another commitment.
