It is an obvious after the fact mistake to get sent home with an idol. But what was Hunter thinking? He was a major challenge threat who everyone knew had an idol. There is just no way they could keep him around with an idol. I guess they could have taken out Q with a second vote once the idol was flushed, but way too risky. Then we get to the decision to tell people he had an idol. In his mind - the Q move the week before had done great damage to his game. He essentially was left with no allies. He used knowledge of his idol to play a long game and forge a new alliance. Of course that failed - and was doomed. I am guessing he was thinking his best chance was having an idol to protect him one time when he doesn't win a challenge. Probably a long shot to get to the end even with one idol (and win the rest of the challenges) - and basically no chance to win out the rest if he had used the idol here. Losing to Charlie in that challenge was very damaging to him. Yeah, I think Hunter was looking at the Mike Holloway route to the end. It was unfortunate for him to have to play the idol here, but as soon as he was vulnerable and especially since he indicated in his exit press that he thought he was getting at least three votes, he has to play it. There's a pretty good chance that the idol gets rehidden with only one other idol in the game (for reference, Maryanne found a second idol after she and Drea played their idols, and Mike still had his idol in 42), and I think Hunter just has to hope that he finds the new idol and/or can win the remaining challenges. Very hard but not impossible.

That's the dream final three for me. I think Liz would probably win at this point, but there's still time for Q or Venus to make a recovery or for Liz to play even more poorly than they have. It could be an old-school Final Tribal Council where the jury dislikes all three of the finalists. It's been a while since that's happened. Off the top of my head, I think we'd have to go back to the final three of Tyson, Gervase and Monica in Blood v. Water. It would be such a good FTC. All 3 think they're masterminds and none of the jury agrees. Also, I love the idea of all the "goats" making it to the end. (I don't know if people see Liz as a goat. She seems to be included in discussions, but still kind of an afterthought.) I hated the pre-merge, but this post-merge has been great. Agreed. Q in particular would be a top 10 winner (for entertainment, not gameplay) for me and probably top five. Right now, my top 10 is something like: 1. Tony 1a. Sandra 3. Fabio 4. Todd 5. Michele 6. Jenna 7. Jeremy 8. Yam Yam 9. JT 10. Earl I think a Q win would put him as high as fourth.

Very hard but not impossible. Yep - I liked Hunter (he was my favorite on the season). And he really screwed up. His chances of winning weren't good playing the idol, but he has to play it there. I know everyone here seems to like Venus - I liked her after the first couple episodes. Now, I just don't like her - and I don't think she has been a good player. But her position in the game right now has improved a lot. Funny how original tribe alliances are completely gone - other than Maria/Charlie seem to be rather tight. I haven't heard anyone talk about needing to break them up (maybe they just aren't considered a threat) - but given how no one can trust anyone in this season - those 2 trusting each other w/o anyone wanting to break them up seems to be an advantage?

It would be iconic if he went into FTC and was like "I know bigger guys get voted out early merge, so I made myself a goat so you'd let me get to the end. BIG MISTAKE." Even if that doesn't happen, I wouldn't be surprised if some people left don't regret not getting rid of him earlier. Hunter couldn't make moves, but I feel like Q can still ruin some games.

Oh yeah, I don't think Venus is playing a good game. I think she understands the game really well, but I don't think she vibes with the rest of the cast. I sort of wonder if Jeff's "at least one of you has no chance of winning just because of your personality" speech at the beginning was left in the episode because she makes it to the end and no one is going to vote for her.
Charlie and Maria seem like they're in a good position. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them won, but I would be a little bummed.

Lol, if Q dropped a "Big Mistake" at Final Tribal Council, and I was on the jury, I would feel compelled to vote for him. Speaking of which, Stephen Fishbach purchased a Cameo from Q in which he hilariously berated Rob Cesternino for daring to make assumptions about his game.

I forgot to mention earlier, but I was thinking which winner Q would most resemble if he somehow won. I think it would be Mike Holloway, as they were both in a pretty good spot and blew up their own games with a massive unforced error. For Q, it was the asking to be voted out debacle. For Mike, it was the auction debacle (Ben probably qualifies too, but I don't view his win as legitimate). It's very unlikely for Q, but I'll hold out hope anyway.

Q survives again because Maria figured out that he's maybe the best smokescreen in Survivor history. I've added Maria to my acceptable winners list. Great move, and Tiffany has no one to blame but herself for continuing to push her luck by not playing her public idol.

The entitlement and ww tears. Q don’t owe you sh*t, Liz. I'm so glad Q didn't pick her. It's not his job to feed her when production can change the rules however they want to make sure she gets something to eat.
But also, 10/10 for Jeff's awkward casting plea immediately after that breakdown.

But also, 10/10 for Jeff's awkward casting plea immediately after that breakdown. Yeah, especially since Liz literally just voted for Q (twice--she was the only Q vote on the revote). Her level of entitlement was Angelina-esque.

OK this is getting fun. I feel like in the other new era seasons people come up with interesting plans and then don't follow through (like Kenzie this ep). So these blindsides have made things more exciting.
Maria and Charlie are growing on me. I feel like they've been making smart decisions, and their Siga voting block with Ben is pretty strong rn. Not a majority, but I don't see the other 4 banding together. I think it'll take a Siga turning to get one of them out.

Yeah, the Denise and Malcolm comparisons are looking more and more accurate by the week, especially with Charlie emerging as a major challenge threat. And speaking of Kenzie, I thought this was a terrible episode for her from an edit standpoint. There have been winners who have gotten blindsided during the season, even great winners like Sandra and Natalie Anderson and Jenna and Yam Yam. But I can't think of a winner who was shown talking about voting out their No. 1 ally for two weeks in a row, backing out of the plan and then getting blindsided when someone else (Maria) votes that ally out instead. To me, this felt very similar to Hunter being left out of the vote when Tevin went home, and we all saw what happened there. Maybe Kenzie can recover, but it felt totally unnecessary to show all that. It would have been easy to just give her low visibility in this episode, but the show went in the other direction. We'll see.

Very interesting that this was cut out of the edit.
I'm this close to becoming a "Q is winning Survivor 46" truther, even if it's mostly just that I want him to win.
