CIF has no plans to cancel HS sports (per Rob Wigard) and will be announcing their calendar tomorrow, 7/20/20. It will be up to the schools/districts if they will run their sports programs. Let us hope they do; fingers crossed =) You can't play sports in California when the governor won't even let your schools resume live classroom sessions. Right now, 33 out of 58 counties in CA are subject to state restrictions, including all the major counties. CIF can say what they want, right now my bet is no fall sports will be starting anytime soon. Well, that would suck. I hope that you are wrong, but respect your opinion =)

Season stays in fall, they watch the season go (or not if all opt out) and decide later what playoffs will look like? Is that how I should read your statement? I just posted the comment as written by Rob. It would seem that it will be up to the schools/districts though the way you stated. More will be revealed tomorrow, I hope.

It looks like cutshot818 is also correct that state and county orders would have to lift in many areas for the districts to make the go decision for sports.

I honestly thought CIF was going to go with the juco decision and push out to January. Maybe give the kids a little bit of hope, but this...

Durango Fall Classic postponed to 2021: "For the health and safety of the players, coaches, parents, fans, officials, and staff, the 2020 Durango Fall Classic has been postponed until Sept. 17 and 18, 2021. Since we do not know how extensive COVID-19 will affect the volleyball season this fall, we had no choice but to postpone the tournament." durangofallclassic.com

Won’t HS sports be dictated by what schools do academically. For instance if districts are saying the pandemic dictates that students have to wear masks, reduce the number of students per class, have on and off periods....... how do you have sports where you have 30 kids in a locker room, sweating, heavy breathing, physical contact? The goal for me is to find a way to get kids back in school safely, sports, is whatever.

Glad they are allowing athletes to play both "outside" (i.e. Club Volleyball) during the new high school season. Wonder how that will work - typically my dd's club practices 2 weeknights and 1 weekend day, whereas high school practices everyday after school. But December just seems like an eternity - who knows what things will look like then!

But December just seems like an eternity - who knows what things will look like then! Its going to be a lot of volleyball with alot of overlap. Some girls HS seasons ending in March and also going into the start of qualifier season. IMO it would be best to have boys and girls HS VB start in October and finish in Dec. Avoid the overlap of having to choose or try to do both and put the extra strain on them.

Having club and school ball running concurrently is going to be tough on athletes, but I can't even imagine how tough this is going to be on coaches who do both. And how do you mitigate injuries? We thought 2020 was a year of difficult decisions, but 2021 may be just as complicated.

Each team being impacted by who will/won't play for either. I coach both HS and club, so that will impact me personally, as our HS teams practice in the evenings since all the coaches are employed away from the school. Best scenario would be for club to be delayed... but we all know that won't happen.

First season will include both girls and boys volleyball. At this time, practice start date is Dec 14th, with first competition on Dec 28th. Last league competition would be Feb 25th. This is going to be... a show for sure.

Of the three HSs in my hometown of Dublin Ohio, I would project their VB teams as follows. 1 Coffman Shamrocks Their Alumnae are representing pretty hard at the NCAA D1 level with Hunter Atherton (Minn), Dana Axner (FGCU), Jenn Schulze (Miami OH), Riley Wagoner (Hawaii) and Sadie Brown (Jacksonville St). Though they are no longer a perennial state title contender, they do have a 155 game Conference winning streak going, with 13 straight Conference Titles. The bad news is that the OCC has realigned their divisions in a manner that will make it difficult to keep that streak alive. They keep their top two divisional foes in Upper Arlington and Hilliard Davidson, but then they replace all of the putrid teams in their division with regional powers Hilliard Bradley, Olentangy Liberty and Olentangy Orange. Last year they leaned heavily on a loaded freshman class that produced three starters. Replacing a pair of college bound senior starters will be key. Two Seniors, setter Anna Dorenkot along with seven rotation Erin Peeples will guide the Super Sophs OH Ella Durham, DS Annabelle Stratey and another seven rotation player in Leah Shumate. OH Ruby Moore is the most promising member of the Junior class, and the rest of the rotation remains up in the air. 2020 Schedule: coffmanathletics.net/teams/2883660/girls/volleyball/varsity/scheduleTeam Page: ladyrocksvolleyball.com/Head Coach: Kim Atherton; second season. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oops, missed this. www.thisweeknews.com/sports/20200601/dublin-coffman-to-hire-coaches-in-three-sportsMax Miller will be the new girls volleyball coach after Kim Atherton guided the program last fall. Miller has coached Davidson (1997), Bexley (1998-99), Hartley (2000-12) and Watterson (2013-16) and also has been a club director for Mintonette since 2006.
The Shamrocks went 12-10 last fall and had a run of 12 consecutive district titles end. They have won 155 consecutive league matches, including going 10-0 last season in the OCC-Central Division to win their 13th consecutive league title. So Hunter Atherton's mamma is out after a one year stint as the HC of Hunter Atherton's Alma; only half as long as Hunter Atherton's playing career at either Nebraska or North Carolina.
