Figure she’s the “Turkish Hammer” of lore that was always being mentioned. It will be interesting to see how hard these freshmen will push the returning sophomores at the pins. If I’m not mistaken, I believe this will be the tallest opposite the Wahine have ever had. If the recent report of her 6’6 height is correct, Ilayda might be the tallest Wahine volleyball player the program has ever had; regardless of position.

Interesting -- definitely has an arm for sure! Her approach jump seems funky how she opens up her legs to the side -- does this take away momentum or height? or not an issue

On a positive note, fans need to be on the look out for Freshman HSer Chalei Reid this upcoming season. Earned MVP honors at a club tourney recently. Coached by Barney, Bailey, Eleu Choy, and Filip Humler I believe. She has strong UH connections and island pride. She's got a pretty live arm for a freshman!

I remember seeing her jump and felt it was unusual but she was still able to become an AA. I’m sure the coaches notice that in Demirtas. I’m going to assume the coaches are not concerned. She is 6-5 and can pound the heck out of the ball. She is also quite mobile and moves pretty well in her blocking highlights. I think she could be a monster in a couple of years.

That on top of a rigorous training schedule, she could be an absolute force!

Incorrect, Kanani Danielson actually used her lower body very efficiently in her jump. Maybe you’re thinking of someone else?

Maybe but for some reason, I always though Kanani had that same form. Maybe it’s only when she hits from the right side. Going back and looking at old highlights of her hitting from the left, she had great form but she seems to have a lot of pictures from the local paper showing her legs apart. Maybe that was what made me think that. Anyho, if that unorthodox approach is correctable, then that is even better for Demirtas

I’m still curious about what De Goede brings to the table outside of being a lefty. I haven’t seen much of anything on her besides a float serve, wonder who has more of a shot. Wahine are basically going to be 3-4 athletes deep on the rightside and 3-4 deep on the left pin, all dependent on where Akana and Westerberg are at this upcoming season and if BVS and Wagoner are for sure not being considered for the Libero position. Very similar to the men’s team right now as far as depth.

Even without JR, I still expect Hawaii to win the BW but I don't see the conference getting more than 1 bid and it'll be tough for UH to be ranked in the top 15 at end of the season. Preseason could be ugly for the BW with a lot of freshmen playing big roles in the conference this fall. lol way to go out on a limb 😂

Demirtas has a year to work on that approach, her vertical is not that good as well. She and De Goede better watch out because Hawaii will have another Opposite coming in next year with a better arm and vertical jump.

Annika supposedly has a 313cm spike reach(10-3) so she can get up there too.Yes….Demirtas being 6-5 and only has a 10-1 reach is not good but she will have time to work on it. My hope is that Annika is better than advertised. The problem is there is no video on her so we’re all left to speculate how good she is.

Though I think we can all speculate about how good she currently is. I believe she missed the Dutch U20 roster, not a great sign.

Maybe the Dutch U20 team is loaded. UH don’t need her to be All American type good when she gets here…...just be All Big West good and go from there. A “good sign” is that at least she was given a shot to try out so she has to have some talent to get a look-see.
