Perlman said, explicitly, if they hadn’t been in the AAU in 2010, they would not have been invited to the Big Ten.
That objectively ends pretty much all discussion.

Why do you care so much that I care? Does it actually bother you? I’m a nerd about this stuff. Don’t read it if it bothers you, sheesh.

Eh, who can keep up with your rambling. So in other words, yeah, Nebraska makes more money than Minnesota. Not in any amount that made it worthwhile to elevate a non-AAU worthy school into the Big Ten, when they were never going to be able to hold up their end of the bargain (football natty for the conf).

What does any of this have to do with the Big back on tentatively? That subject ended when the Big Ten announced it was back (non-tentatively). Thus the thread is open. Stop trying to control other peoples’ posts. Mind your own business. Don’t comment if you don’t care about the subject.

Being a research university isn't necessary to being a good school, but it is necessary to being a good research university. The PAC and B1G seem to pride themselves very much on being associations of research universities. More truth here. Frankly ... being great at research has very little to do with the undergraduate experience. Schools that pride themselves on a (very) rigorous academic experience for undergraduates, tend to be very specific about that. Ivy League. Top elite liberal arts colleges. UChicago. And so on.
The top universities in the world are elite research universities. Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Cambridge, Oxford, UC Berkeley, Chicago... MIT is probably not the place to go to study Old English literature, I'll give you that, although Oxford or Cambridge certainly are. Nevertheless, these have an extremely rigorous academic experience for both undergraduates and graduates. I would not say that elite research universities are not elite schools. However, I would say that elite research universities are not the only possible kind of elite school.

Oh, I wasn’t aware that there was a definitive end to volleytalk topics and thus someone can “open” it to an entirely different topic. Definitely makes more sense than starting a thread about that topic. How silly of me.

This guy is grinding Paul Bunyan's giant axe over this ten-year old topic on a volleyball forum in a thread about a season postponed by a pandemic.
Gotta say I did not see my September turning out like this.

There’s a new sheriff in town evidently.

As a relative n00b, I'm not on the receiving list of those memos.
But...
With our new-found cachet in the league, I think maybe it's time we explore bringing our old buddies the Sooners into the fold.
And if we have to cut some dead weight to bring them in and keep the league at 14, maybe we should consider the geographical outlier in the NW of the conference.
I mean... if it's just a question of championships, what team will the gophers bring to the table?
