How come OSU only play the Arizona Schools once? The Lady Beavs play UA in Tucson but play ASU in Corvallis. Shouldn’t it be fairer that everyone play everyone home and away? What is the reason for that?
If the schedule is done that way throughout the conference, somebody has the luxury of only play Stanford once.

It would take 22 conference matches to play a full double round robin. That’s more than any other conference and would be really bad for RPI. So every year, there are 2 teams they’ll only play once. Which two teams switches every year.

OSU’s schedule does not look good though. 2/3 of their matches are away from home with no preseason match at home and the entire September on the road. UGH!

Plus they added two new freshmen outside hitters, Vivian Light and Emily Bourne, a libero/setter Ryan White, and another setter Ashlyn Beaver. OSU is getting a player named "Beaver"?

Ooops, edited to Ashlyn Beaver =)

Got it but you still want to play in your home gym, sleep in your own bed and be able to train in your own facilities. Being on the road that long can be mentally exhausting.

Well, IIRC the UW has a softball player named "Husky". (OK, her name is actually "Madison Huskey". Pretty close, though.) Has Oregon ever had an athlete named "Duck"?

Beavers posted a video of the players getting their new clothing, and McDonald was using crutches and had a wrap on her left leg. Not sure how serious it is. They finally posted their 2021 roster though, and they added a couple more players that I didn't see announced, including a 6'3 MB Freshman from Turkey-DiLara Unal. They also added another OH hitter, Madison Kelly, and I forgot to add the new Freshman DS, Iris Coba. So, now in total they have 18 players on their roster. 3 setters, 7 OH/OPP, 3 MB, and 5 DS. They definitely will have enough depth to sit players who are not performing, unlike last year, but with so many Freshmen, it is going to be a building season for OSU, or just a lot of redshirted players. We will see.

Watched the Beavers scrimmage today. Neither Goings nor McDonald played but were with the team, so still rehabbing injuries it seemed. No boots or casts though. Also, Vernon served and played DS, but did not rotate to the front at all for some reason. Maybe resting her arm? Or is she going to be replaced in front row by the young taller hitters? Would be surprised if that was the case.
The OH/OPP players were Tkachenko, Bourne, Light, and Buckner. Tkachenko played well. Error count was low. Bourne and Light look pretty solid, though inconsistent at times. Light has more power, but not as good OOS nor with serve receive. Bourne more consistent. Great down the line hits, and off hand kills. Smarter player. Buckner wasn't that effective. Her kill number was probably very low.
Schell was the most effective middle. They had two other players playing middle, the freshmen Unal and Kelly, who is listed as OH/OPP. Unal got some good blocks, but very ineffective hitter. Hits soft and not great on slide. Kelly is an athlete. She passed short serves well, quick to get to the pins for blocks, and hits hard. She will need practice timing with setters, considering she isn't a seasoned middle though.
Izzy set well, but also part-time hit right side somewhat effectively, when they ran a modified 5-2. She hit a few long, but goes for it. She was blocking well. The freshmen setter, Beaver, was very good. She will definitely have playing time this year. Lopez struggles to set well unless she has a perfect pass, so I don't see her playing that much this season now that they have two solid setters in Izzy and Beaver.
Passing was pretty strong. All three freshmen DS looked solid. Massey excellent as usual. Coba played libero part time, as did White. Coba seemed a bit stronger. She has an excellent serve and went on serving runs a couple of times. Villaluz also is an excellent passer, and is quick to get tips. She didn't serve, nor was she in the libero jersey, so likely she will be in part-time back row for a hitter. Turner served well, but she isn't that quick and passing can be inconsistent. She will very likely lose her DS spot to Coba and Villaluz, but she likely will come in to serve at times.
Nice to see the Beavers have more depth this year. I see all the hitters getting playing time, but they are a young team, so this is likely a building year for them. Hopefully they get McDonald and Goings back from injury soon.

Omg yes thank you for this!!!! Can you give anymore insight on white? How she might transfer to the college game? JJVb Welcome ! Regarding White, I'd say she wasn't as sharp and on point as Coba or Villaluz were, but not far behind. White had a good serve, was quick, pretty consistent serve receive, but struggled a bit more with figuring out which digs/passes to take or let for others. Of course there is the unknown of not playing with her teammates much quite yet, but maybe nervous or not quite as confident. Some balls she took that maybe were not hers and sometimes let a ball drop that maybe she could have gotten. She was competitive, and with a little more time will be a great passer for OSU. With she, Coba, and Villaluz, OSU is set after the Massey era ends.

Oregon State wins 3-2 over Oklahoma. That is a good first win, especially because they were missing so many of their players. McDonald and Goings still rehabbing. Vernon nor Tkachenko played! Madison Kelly as MB was excellent, as was Vivian Light for OH. Bourne and Buckner were in the negative. Once OSU get their usual starters back, this team will get even better. Surprised to see Ryan White start over Coba, though she did pretty good. Defense is strong for OSU this year. Looks like the MBs and Light were the shining spots at the front. Not sure why Vernon, Tkachenko, and Coba didn't play-injuries? or covid protocal? Vernon wasn't hitting in the scrimmage, so injury seems likely for her, but they other two did play, and played well. Hope OSU can continue their momentum.

OSU couldn't keep their momentum in their second match, losing 1-3 to Houston. The freshmen outsides and middle didn't have as good of numbers. Long 5 setter took it out of them yesterday likely. Won't get any easier for OSU, as they face LSU, Penn State, and Iowa State next weekend. If they don't get a couple of their other players back for those matches, it could be a long weekend for them.
