Also it is only for your returning seniors. Senior transfers count against the limit. If the exception lived on for five years, then the following would be possible: Rollins transfers to wherever for her true senior year in fall 2021. Then she stays there for her super-senior year in fall 2022 -- and the rule would allow her to keep her scholarship without "stealing" it away from the incoming class that year. Wishful thinking. Also most schools aren't going to fund extra scholarships for five years. I doubt many will even fund the extra ships in the fall.

Scholarship or playing time. Either way, someone is losing. What you hope is that kids go to schools that have openings and needs AND that it benefits the student athlete academically.
Expecting schools to foot the bill for COVID isn't going to work, imo.
I think we are losing sight of what school is for.

Just not Wisconsin, for ____'s sake. Already had one carpetbagger who couldn't beat out a Gopher go there.
I think that's what always kinda rubbed me the wrong way with the Barnes transfer. I would have rooted for her at any other school, but to transfer to our main vb rival? I'm sure I'll be attacked for saying that. I don't care. I always looked at the situation from her perspective. One place doesn't want me as a BRO and another place does. Yeah she Favred the Gophers but maybe they should have allowed her to wear the jersey. In any case it has developed into her playing in a National championship and maybe a shot at one more. Good for her, too bad for us.

Anybody worried that Wenaas might transfer also? She has been posting some stuff on Instagram stories about how “god shouldn’t let you be in a place where you aren’t at your full potential” and “everything you’re doing now is to help the future”. Not sure if it’s VBall related but I can imagine she probably didn’t want to play DS all year as the #3 OH recruit in the country... Maybe she will get to play more OH next year now that Rollins is transferring? Thoughts? I was. Maybe less so now. I thought it depended on Samedy, but now there is a spot for her. Heck, this may mean Glenn plays right away too. Not sure why she's criticizing God. I'd like to know what's up/was up with Myers this year.

I think Glenn would slot in nicely, especially now. She has a wicked arm.

Yeah, if Rollins is gone and Miyabe doesn’t come back, Landfair and Wenaas will be our most experienced outsides along with Gray and Glen coming in. I hope we get to Crowl on RS right away. (Shes the RS, isn’t she?).. of course assuming Samedy doesn’t come back. I think we’ll be alright at middle even without Pittman. Assuming Myers comes back, we’ll have Rubright, Husemann might finally get some time, and Anna Wolf. The weak spot is going to be L/DS for sure, especially if CC is injured. Need a transfer.

Maybe Gray helps there? I admit I have never actually seen her play, in spite of all the time I spent watching Select practices. Her team was never there when I was.

We may be looking at a 5th or 6th place B1G team this fall. I don’t see it. I could see next conference season standings being something like: 1. Wisconsin 2-5. PSU, Nebraska, Ohio St, Purdue 6. Minnesota

After Wenaas committed to Minnesota, I felt that she may one day end up at Texas A&M since she had been verbally committed to the Aggies previously. Those thoughts were just based on potential homesickness, and I believe she has several family members who attended A&M. With this pandemic, I think many young players who are far away from home attending college could decide they want to be closer to family.

Three years ago when we had several transfer outs for various reasons, I felt it did not bode well for this program. I will stick to that feeling because look where we are at now. Yes, some of those girls would not have had playing time no matter what, but it still does not look good and certainly has left this program with a lot of ?? right now.

Take a school like Texas, with well over $200M in athletic revenue.
Just makes no sense to fund a couple extra scholarships for a few years. No way they can afford it. You've got to be talking about .... $70k/yr ? Preposterous.

Expected Gophers fall 2021 starting lineup with some caveats:
OH Taylor Landfair OH Jenna Wenaas (6 rot) S Melani Shaffmaster MB Shea Rubright MB (incoming transfer--unless Pittman stays) Opp Lauren Crowl (unless Samedy stays) L CC McGraw DS Rachel Killkelly or incoming transfer (I'm doubting any of the incoming recruits beat out Kilkelly)
If Samedy does not stay, I think Crowl, as a 6'4" lefty might fill in nicely on the right. The only shred of doubt I had about Wenaas leaving was if Rollins stayed. The 6-rotation spot is not Jenna's to lose, and she, Landfair, and Shaffmaster all have four more years of eligibility.
