Expected Gophers fall 2021 starting lineup with some caveats: OH Taylor Landfair OH Jenna Wenaas (6 rot) S Melani Shaffmaster MB Shea Rubright MB (incoming transfer--unless Pittman stays) Opp Lauren Crowl (unless Samedy stays) L CC McGraw DS Rachel Killkelly or incoming transfer (I'm doubting any of the incoming recruits beat out Kilkelly) If Samedy does not stay, I think Crowl, as a 6'4" lefty might fill in nicely on the right. The only shred of doubt I had about Wenaas leaving was if Rollins stayed. The 6-rotation spot is not Jenna's to lose, and she, Landfair, and Shaffmaster all have four more years of eligibility. Not sure Crowl would be the better choice between her and Glenn, but we shall see. Miyabe is another wildcard. I would also think Myers would be the other middle if she plays. I also wouldn't mind seeing a left-handed middle get a shot.

I always looked at the situation from her perspective. One place doesn't want me as a BRO and another place does. Yeah she Favred the Gophers but maybe they should have allowed her to wear the jersey. In any case it has developed into her playing in a National championship and maybe a shot at one more. Good for her, too bad for us. And may she lose, both times. I honestly think Texas is the better team -- if they don't pull another Texas.

I'm with Ruffda. I too think Texas is better than Wisconsin. TX and KY in the Championship?
By the way, am I allowed to have my FANTASY VOLLEYBALL TEAM here at Minnesota with a combination of Wisconsin and Minnesota players? However, it would require Barnes to return here and Hilley to come home.

Wisconsin is VERY good. But they are at a disadvantage at 2nd OH and 2nd middle. It also hurts that they didn't have a fall season and their spring season was so intermittent.

Wishful thinking. Also most schools aren't going to fund extra scholarships for five years. I doubt many will even fund the extra ships in the fall. Right? Take a school like Texas, with well over $200M in athletic revenue.
Just makes no sense to fund a couple extra scholarships for a few years. No way they can afford it. You've got to be talking about .... $70k/yr ? Preposterous. I wasn't talking about Texas. I was talking about the majority of NCAA schools whose revenue is only a fraction of ours. I'm sure that is why the NCAA didn't implement the exception for more than the upcoming academic year and why I don't expect it to be extended.

I do think Wisconsin has a disadvantage. It seems like the B1G teams all went out about 1 round before they should have, save Penn State. Our shorter uneven schedule resulted in some lack of preparation. I also think Minnesota would not have finished second had we had a regular season but still near the top. I feel that #3 ranking - which was pure guess work by the committee - lead some fans to having too high of expectations for this team. They did well until they didn't. That Pitt match was not good for this group. However, I never expected them to make the final 4, just too inexperienced in key positions. Especially after McGraw went out.

[/div]
I think that's what always kinda rubbed me the wrong way with the Barnes transfer. I would have rooted for her at any other school, but to transfer to our main vb rival? I'm sure I'll be attacked for saying that. I don't care.
I know i have a different outlook on this because after the gophers wisky is my next favorite team. Barnes is a fantastic young eoman and i will be cheering her on against texas. I cheer for all the players who left i hold nothing against them

Makes no sense not to extend the *optional* scholarships not counting for non-transfer super-seniors. No one is forced to do anything. Those that can afford, say 14 scholarships, when they're already paying for 12 (and to be DI I think you have to fund a minimum of something like well over 100 as an athletic department??), will choose to do that.

Well, you did say open hand and he said "overhand". I do think some of the throws in this tournament have been pretty egregious. The one from Pitt (don't remember if it was in the 5th, at this point) was just pathetic. It was a basketball slam dunk. Lame as hell that it wasn't called. so, you really like the game back in the 80's.

But I haven't seen enough of either to have an opinion worth listening to. It probably comes down to how many DS Hugh is comfortable going with next year. If Glenn won the RS battle, she’d be on the court for 6 rotations and we’d only have 1 DS (prob Kilkelly). If he feels good about 2 DS on the roster next year and Crowl’s hitting is notably more competitive then Glenn’s, i could see Hugh opting for that.

As long as currently less deserving programs than Minnesota (e.g. Wisconsin, Kentucky) don't get a natty before we do, then such things can rightly be dismissed as jealous bridesmaid snickering.
That makes Texas my team.

Not sure what makes Wisconsin less deserving other than being Wisconsin. They have been building a good program there. One that causes players like Izzy Ashburn, who would be a starter at a bunch of other schools, to stick around to be a DS/ Serving specialist.
